I just did not like the stock keyboard config controls for RTCW (or Quake, Medal of Honor, or Soldier of Fortune II, etc)

I set up my keyboard around the arrow keys and it works very well. Those new to gaming, might I suggest you set up your controls around this.

Up Arrow=forward Down Arrow=Backwards Left Arrow=Move left Right Arrow=Move right

0 keypad=reload Ctrl=jump Shift=crouch Enter=activate

Delete=special weapons 1 End=special weapons 2 page down=machine gun

Left Mouse bt=shoot right mouse bt=sprint

All other settings _I Leave alone and it seems to work well. The special weapons buttons are very handy if you are a medic and want to quickly get to the revive shot, or medic packs, likewise, these button settings work equally well for engineers and leuts for their special weapons. Having the page down button reserved for the machine gun allows to you to quickly get to the gun if you are in a pickle after setting dynomite or handing our ammo, etc. The mouse wheel still scrolls through the weapons, but being able to instantly select the item you need is very handy and will save you a few precious seconds.

These keyboard settings are much easier to find, as you do not ever need to look at the keyboard, which is very important. Works great for lefties too, but for right handers, having your hands closer together seems to improve gaming performance. Everyone who I've set up their computers using these keys does very well, give it a try unless you are absolutely dead set on your current settings. I've never seen anyone post any keyboard layout suggestions, so I hope this helps out.

Hi FlederMaus!

I use this combo

Mouse - Right button forward - left button fire - centre button use item - scroll wheel change weapons.

Keyboard - "A" strafe left - "S" back - "D" strafe right - "left shift" sprint - "Z" Zoom on sniper etc "Spacebar" jump.

I leave standard weapons keys untouched because using this combo I can reach them with one finger - and with my index fnger on "D" the sprint key is always under my little finger and jump is always under my thumb.

These work very well for me, as you say you never have to look at keyboard when using and I work better with some space between my hands.

ALl my LAN friends use these keys as well, but that may be just cause we all started together at the same time. The really good thing about it is if one of my friends is in the middle of a game and needs a fix of Pizza he just has to call me over and I already know the keyboard/mouse combo!

Oh yes, one thing you didn't mention - are you an "invert mouse" freak like me?

Any other combo that people use, would be interesting to hear?

:cya: steve

Hey Steve (apocalypse_kid),

I think the inverted mouse setup is due to your being down-under and upside down to the rest of us :naughty:

Yes, having all your buddies use the same set up is nice when you are using common computers. None of that annoying reconfiguring when you get back on the computer.

Like I said, switching to an entirely new setup just isn't going to go over very well after being used to the setup you are accustomed to. But, when I started playing, I wish I had the input from others about their configurations. Being able to sprint, hand out ammo or med packs, circle strafing, jumping, crouching and firing on the enemy at one time requires ideal hand coordination and efficient key strokes. I'd like to hear other configurations people use and I am sure other new players would appreciate the input.

r-Reload space - jump #'s - weapons(mouse scroll busted on rtcw but it's quicker with the buttons.)
