But aren't SW books considered canon? If so, why does George Lucas consider books canon and in ST books are rarely considered bearers of canon?

As far as i know if its not to do with paramount/The people who make Star Trek. Its not canon. If all Star Trek Books were canon then the whole Star Trek universe would be incredibably contradicting and confusing. And Parmount would probablt have to make Star Trek so it fits in with the many book which will never happen. And because Star wars is just Movies the books about it would be easier to incorperate into and around the movies, As for Star Trek It is set over many diffrent series and movies thus making it more difficult to incorperate books. If you know what i mean.

As far as I know only a select few SW books can be considered canon to the time line, however ST-v-SW.net has an intire section devoted to whats canon and whats not in both franchises if I remember correctly, I say give that a read.

First off, the Star Trek Books come from "Poket Books" of whom have a licence that allows them to release books with "Star Trek" in the title. This allows them to produce books based in the Star Trek Universe. However since the books and company are not directly affilated with CBS or Paramount, they are not considered cannon.

Didn't Paramount give the Titan series clarification? - I know they accepted the Luna Class model.

As I recall the design contest was with Simon and Schuster of whom also hold a Star Trek Licence.

almost every sw-book is considered cannon, because GL has his own section whose only concern is to check new books/mags/comics for consistency ... they give GL a raw-short summary of the story, whereupon he decides to take it or not for st this won't work because GR is dead for quite some time now, and even if he wasn't he never had the copyrights to st, therefore only limited rights ... GL on the other hand can do whatever he wants with sw, thanks to the lack of vision studiobosses displayed n the 70ies, go for it GEORGE :D

Yeh that makes sense....Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek, the fact that it doesnt say copyright RoddenberryArts or RoddenberryFilm has got nothing to do with it. LUCAS runs his own companies which is basicly what you explained.

The book licenceing for Star Trek is different from Star Wars which is why they couldnt be considered cannon.

but it is linked with GR ... if he had the copyrights, paramount could do shit about releasing every 5 days a new book, also as creator, i think we could take his words as cannon ...!
