So the trailer is out for Season 2, and it looks like Christopher Pike is going to be taking a big role;

I gave up on Season 1 after just two episodes, I just couldn't get into the Klingons for some reason and found it hard to follow. I may try again but, I don't know if it's for me.

What do others think of it now the first season is done?

Y'know, at first I was skeptical about the Klingons, but over time I grew to like them. They're far more threatening because of their new look. I'll definitely be watching Season 2, too.

Started watching season 1; didn't mind a new take on Klingons, but some of the acting was intentionally silly, which gets annoying after a while. Some episodes in, when they started with the parallel universe topic, the whole thing just got  way too silly for me.

I watched DS9 and didn't mind the slightly silly parallel universe idea there, but it was contained to some episodes whereas in this series it seems to be more of a main component.

Nowadays you have much higher quality sci-fi alternatives like Altered Carbon or The Expanse. Since they are on a break currently I am watching Babylon 5. Somehow never got around to watching it, but I was immediately sold on the space-combat that showed spacecraft subjected to inertia.

Well, the parallel universe thing is a big element since it's one of the things that's currently on the forefront of science.

I can't claim to know the specifics, but some reputable scientists do believe that it's possible other universes like ours exist. One of the subtheories is that they could be parallel universes, where everything is almost the same except for a few things. It's not as silly as it might seem when you consider that it is actually something that occupies a sizeable space in science right now.

I didn't mean the idea of parallel universes in itself but more the idea of a parallel universe filled with sillier versions of the "normal" characters (which were kind of silly to begin with). DS9 had exactly the same concept - they used it to experiment with really trashy episodes that featured over the top acting, outfits etc.

I think Voyager also had something of the sort with some sub-plot about a holographic series one of the characters created.

It's ok,  a nice diversion and fun for the guys to get out of their usual character, but works better in small amounts :)

Can't wait for season 2. I agree with rTbT1uIk5K6SoCKqGI34oIZA193T2NGb2XKTvXmt.png@MrFancypants  though in that some of the characters do feel a little over-acted. I like the Klingons too but burnham seemed to have a very..almost wooden style of things. Maybe that's her trying to show that there's vulcan inside her? Idk.

Same. The Klingons just pulled me out of it. I was also kind of a stick in the mud about the whole CBS all-access thing.

I'm considering maybe checking it out again; some people whose opinion I respect have said good things.

That worries me given that the mirror universe episodes of DS9 are just auto-skips for me.

So, is CBS going to put Discovery on the television yet?

I’ve always found the Klingons to be middling on my list of Trek advesaries. I want to see what foe comes in the new seasons.
