I've been looking for the main themes from the various Star Trek series on Amazon MP3 and Itunes.

Its all a mess though, with hundreds of tracks from different albums, most of which I'm not sure are official.

What's this "Star Trek Album" thing? Is that official? How do you tell whats official?

It seems like a lot of people have made slight variations on some of the things and bundled them with these other albums...its really weird.

For instance, the ones that state Jerry Goldsmith as their author I'm pretty sure are authentic, but then theres versions by various orchestras, like the "City of Prague Philharmonic." What the heck!?

That means that Jerry Goldsmith wrote the music, while the City of Prague Philharmonic performed the music in that instance. What are you looking for btw, just the theme/end music from the different star trek tv series?

Really? Like were they the symphony chosen to score the series and movies? Because I don't recall seeing Goldsmith mentioned anywhere on the Star Trek Album.

I think the Star Trek Album and albums like it are rerecording, I want the originals.

Main themes from the series, and maybe some stuff from the movies.

Thanks

They probably sells scores somewhere, but they would be hard to find.

Hmm. Talk to other staff and see what they say. I may as well.

The Star Trek Album was performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and includes most of the Star Trek movie and TV theme music as well as a few other pieces (such as the Klingon music from ST1 or the music from Tasha's funeral). It's not official (i.e. they're not the same orchestra as the one who performed the pieces for the shows), and it has its very own distinctive sound to it but in some cases they actually make a better job of it than the original orchestras did.

CoP have created CDs of several other movie soundtracks such as Indiana Jones and, I believe, Jurassic Park, and if you're interested in that sort of thing they're very good at what they do. But while they read the same sheet music, they're not the same orchestra, and you can tell from listening.

If you want the actual original tunes as used on the shows, you'll probably have to buy the soundtrack CDs for each movie. I'm unaware of any official, original compilations, and I don't think that iTunes sell that much in the way of movie soundtracks.

Oh, I wasn't really looking for a compilation, I just wanted to know if the Star Trek Album was official, thanks for answering the question. :)

I've seen a lot of soundtrack on itunes, just search for it in the music store.
