This is Official: Message In A Bottle has to be one of, if not the best Voyager Episode there is. Not only do we get to see a neat new ship, some kick ass fighting scenes between the Prometheus, and Romulans, but we also get some quality humour throughout the episode. I give this episode a solid 10/10, no question about it. However, as with everything, there are a few... flaws. Firstly, the Nebula Class that is chasing the Prometheus early on, fires her Phaser Beam from a point that isn't actually a Phaser Array. If you watch the episode, she (the Nebula Class) fires from the very front of the Saucer Section - There is nothing there to fire from. Secondly, the fact that the ship (brand new) went out into deep space, with a small crew compliment, makes that whole prospect sound really stupid. Are Starfleet really that crap when it comes to Federation Security? Thirdly, the Prometheus was mentioned as being the fastest ship in the fleet. yet, a Nebula Class AND later on, two Defiant's and an Akira managed to catch up with her? - So much for the speeding. And yes, she was going at Maximum Warp. It was mentioned by the Romulan Commander. And last but not least, the 're-capture' of the Prometheus. Two security officers beamed aboard the Prometheus Bridge. Two, with a ship full of Romulans, Starfleet thought it would be a good idea to send two people, in exactly the same spot. Wow, kudos to them for their stupidity. On that point too, them security officers. When they saw the two Doctors standing there, they looked relieved. Surely the look on their faces should have been more puzzling (them having a 'WTF' moment) rather than 'Oh, everything is ok, there are two Doctors standing on the Bridge'. I don't think I've missed anything out. And still a very good episode, just thought I'd note down a few problems. :)
That was very good...Most people miss that the "fastest ship" in the fleet was caught by the Romulans and the slowest Federation ship, the Defiant class...
I however feel it was one of the least favorable episodes... The contradictions were riduiculous and massive. I didn't like the Prometheus at all. It's a ugly design and it really didn't prove it's self so powerful as it does out numbers it's target...It had no quantum tech....I wasn't dazzled at all.
but...it was the moment Voyager made contact with Star Fleet..suddenly...home wasn't that far away...and that made being so far away little easier...but we knew Voyager would be coming home soon. That's why it scored for me..
I like message in a bottle. It ranks up near Trials and Tribleations for me. Some of the pieces weren't really thought out.. but I think the episode as a whole is still very cool.
@ Tycoon I never noticed that about the Nebula class, and I've seen it several (many) times. Now I've got to go watch it again.. lol.
The Prometheus kind of felt like some admiral's pet project. It seemed like one of those "great experiments" where you aren't entirely sure what they were aiming for. They seemed to be trying to combined more than one new ideas into a single platform when the probably could have done a better job focusing on one.
mmh but the nebula was a bonchune variant if im not mistaken. + It was going indeed warp 9.9 mentioned by the rommie. So does this makes the ship 'the fastest'? Because that emh2 said that it was supposed to be the fastest ship, if i remember correctly... with a great sarcasm!
What!!! I' never heard that in the episode..
Neither have I, and I've watched it many times.
when they are going to execute for the first time the sep...
