Just came into my mind this morning, Considering that the some of the early seasons of TNG had really cheesy VFX, what's your opinion to remaster TNG it with all new CGI stuff? You know like in TOS-R? Personally, I would really like it. Notable episodes like Yesterday's Enterprise and Best of Both Worlds would be significantly look better.

A worthwhile thread, I must give you credit on that, though I figure you wont get your wish. TOS was old, and needed a facelift (so to speak). If they do TNG, then they can't leave DS9 untouched, and if they do DS9, you'd have the same problem with VOY... Well... maybe not Voyager so much, but they will definatly need to do various parts of DS9 again.

I found TNG CGI just right...TOS needed it badly..as well as the TOS Moives as well.

I'd say only some of the FX for TNG could do with a touch up, but not all of them. As for the movies, I don't think that the FX in them needs to be given any treatment other than trying to make it less able to see through the ships (in TOS films) every now and then. (It was a the same problem that was had with the in-cockpit view of the Snowspeeder in Empire Strikes Back - the whole, seeing the AT-AT legs through the cockpit frame) Other than that, I think that the FX for movies 1-6 was good, even by some of today's standards.

Well, they can take the “lag” out of the early CG space/ship scenes…by the way, anyone know when TOS remastered will be available on DVD?

I think it already is. I remember seeing the HD+DVD combo out last year. I'm positive that was it anway.

It's been out for a while, and it's awesome. TOS never looked better, not even when it first came out.

Luckily, the restoration was done with respect for the original and it does not rewrite history, like the Star Wars edits.

At this point, I would find it more distracting to watch my original TOS DVDs than the remastered ones.

Seasons 2 and 3 have been cancelled, since Toshiba dropped HD-DVD. This is very frustrating, considering the first season sold so well, CBS was eager to start releasing more TV on HD DVDs.

As for TNG, it would be very nice to have it in HD, but I've read it was shot on video rather than film, so it would not transfer as well. Some of it looks good, and some of it looks like a bad VHS tape.

erm.. isn't video, film? heh - guy who doesnt know the difference cept that to film in #HD# needs its own set of equipment.

They should just switch to Blu. meh.

and i DO think that the CG in TNG needs redoing, aswell as Voyager AND DS9. For starters, Scaling. Secondly, re-using ships as new types/different aliens. Thirdly, erm... meh. Anyway, TNG did some really crappy jobs with regards to federation ship classes. All we ever saw of other ships was Excelsiors and Oberths. Mix it up. add more classes - indeed, use designs made for DS9. I believe there was a design or two made that looked old enough. The kit-bashes are a no-no however. Change this ship to an ambassador (as long as there's no frickin mention of the ship in question being an EXcel) - get the damn scaling right - that sort of thing. And when they show a large BoP - make it a new frickin design, like those 3 that confronted the 2 Warbirds in that infamous scaling issue image of 3 BoP's, wings up, the Ent-D and 2 Romie warbirds.

And for DS9, they could do with scaling it better. Ships putting the front through the frickin model (that's what it looks like' just to get the hull to meet that docking part thats inset,) just isnt right, so they can redo 'how' the ships dock, like a docking collar that we saw in TNG when the Ent docked with Spacedock-type starbases. And the dom-war fleet engagement shots could do with updating. Showing the ships in the background actually firing - at HD, it's possible afterall, aswell as the computing abilities of computers they'd use to do the renders have like tripled or so since then - it was over 7 years ago now when DS9 ended. Scenes showing the ships firing phasers as multiple ships as they head into the middle of dom fleets, shield flares, and so on. the phaser thing i just mentioned - imagine an excelsior, doing what the Ent-E did in nemesis (except to be actually aiming, rather than just firing blindly) against the doms.
