Yeah you're right. It could actually be a good movie, who knows. I certainly hope so. And besides, with unlimited resources the action ought to look good on a bog cinema screen.

You know, I've heard rumors that it'd revolve around the original Romulan war between the Federation and Romulans, Perhaps this will explain kirks deep mistrust for romulans, Perhaps it'll start with this incredi-gay timeline bs but as the Rom plot fails, Kirk becomes bolder and ofcourse starfleet beefs it up a notch, The federation and romulans begin a massive war that plays out similar to any wonderful submarine warfare movie, maybe with a bit of actual battleship like warfare. Perhaps something original maybe! with an ending showing kirk watching the neutral-zone treaty being signed on the main screen!

See, this would solve Two of modern startreks biggest problems.

1. The movies, With the exception of first contact, the ship battles aren't really... intense. Some of nemesis had some good battles in it as well, especially when the romulans arrived to help fight the scimitar, that was cool. but, the action isn't as profound as say, ST:II.. Now, I do believe that another Romulan movie, (if it doesn't revolve around the first romulan war) is really milking it a little too hard. They have a good Fed vs borg film, a good fed vs Rom film.. Alot of good fed vs dominion episodes, I'll never forget watching that galaxy class get raped by the Dominion ships.. always fun. But really.. Honestly...

2. I hate StarTrek:Enterprise.. It was so gay, Seriously, All it was, was them building off a single scenario.. First to do everything.. How boring. First to go warp 5.. first to fight to use tractor beams.. they used "Photonic Torpedoes" What the hell man! And ofcourse, the worst thing ever was their attempt at raping the borg storyline. Q forced the borg in meeting the federation.. They had to go and make it some big gay paradox where they find borg and they send out a message, where in the future the borg will recieve it and become aware of the federation. What the hell man! seriously! TNG!! remember!! TNG!! Q man! Q was the guy! Q RuleZ

He is the Gman for Startrek.. Come on! Dont rape him out too..

They need something freakin amazing if they wanna pull off a startrek return. It still has life in it.. Kindof like Numenor, The blood is almost spent but Strider (hopefully a good startrek movie) can become king! and make it so startrek doesn't blow balls anymore! please god1 please!

I figure between the end of Enterprise and the beginning of Star trek TOS there has to be some big brain fade to make humanity forget that they have phasers and photonic torpedoes.

Didnt Spock say in Balance of Terror that the Federation-Romulan War was fought with lasers, missiles, and atomic weapons?

Ent might wreck the canon, but I recall reading somewhere that the first earth-Rommie war actually occured shortly after the Ent series was set - and that it was written up before the Ent series was written. Eh, someone can probably correct me / back me up on that.

Personally I think that unless they pump the graphics really hard, they aren't going to be able to make an interesting battle out of pre-TOS timeline ships. Not forgetting of course that some of those ship designs are REALLY bland.

I hope this is nothing more than a rumor the fans spread or the studio spread to hide the real plot.

The fact that J.J. Abrams is the man with the plan gives me some hope for this film, at least. I'll give it a chance.
