THE STEN smg was a crude, easily manufactured weapon that could be made with simple tooling for cheap. They were simple enough that some were made in backyard shops. No wood, just metal and rather crude and was looked at by troops as a cheap, crude, little toy. The "stock" was just a triangular piece of metal with a hole where you put your thumb. But the Sten worked well, if it was maintained regularly. Jam- ups, mostly due to the fraility of the magazine were still common problems. There was no safety on this weapon. The weapon was given to French Partisan fighters- resistance fighters. The Sten MKII has been described as the "ugliests, nastiest weapon ever used by the British Army", and close inspection of one reveals a weapon that looks as if it has been made in a backyard garage. 2 million Stens were produced and SIX could be made for the cost of ONE Thompson. The MKII silenced Sten was an actual weapon. The majority of sound it made was the bolt as it slide forward. The temperature quickly built up in the silencer and only SINGLE SHOTS were recommended. (pretty accurately portrayed in RTCW) Many British soldiers who fought with Stens would have preferred Thompsons or MP40's. The Germans made a copy of the Sten's basic principles in a cheap, emergency SMG used to equip the Home Defence in the closing days of the war.
Yeah, in the past few days I have been switching to Thompson, but treating it like a sten (accurate single shots) and it has same effect whilst I can sill jump out and pump someone with lead...
nah i hate stens. when u run into someone wut are u going to do ah? try to get a headshot and hope that they are a noob and cant kill u fast enogh when u recharge, mp 40 is my choice, i like accurate fast hitting weapons(that dont overheat all the time)
I am just wonderingFlederMaus!, in your post it says that BRitish soldiers used mp40s, i thought mp40 was an axis weapon, was i wrong? :uhm:
He said they would have liked to have MP40s...
The Sten is amazing for dispatching enemies at long range, but so is a Thompson if you're good enough. Plus, like OD1N said, you can take care of people who jump out...
the sten is a powerful and silent weapon that tears a new one for ppl, if u can aim.....a few good chest or head shots will kill them...if u cant aim, thats what panzers are for :)
You can make accurate Thompson shots, but the amusement of hearing 'Rathius you have aimbot there is no way you can kill me with 1 shot from across the map" is present only with a sten... :(
i prefer the panzer simply because i like to kill more than one player at a time

 Yeah so true! That's why I sometimes use a panzer when I've had a few too many beer  heh heh! But actually I've even amazed myself at how much skill can be used in a panzer, i.e. not killing thine self, not killing thine friend, and not wasting any shots.
I've actually switched to the pistol instead of firing the panzer in many situations and got many kills that way, saving the panzer shot for when it's handy.
I've survived as a panzer long enough to need reloads two or three times also!
But normally I like playing medic first, LT second and engineer 3rd.
i have now seen the light......sniping!! thats my calling.people are dropping like sacks of potatoes.panzer is still ok,but nothing beats the perfect head shot.
Im very comfortable with the Sten. call it my Steny. Its a good gun and tells other players that you are a sharp shooter.
