Yes, you have to buy them individually.

And here you thought there'd be no big StarCraft 2 announcement after its conspicuous absence from the BlizzCon 2008 opening ceremony. Rob Pardo, executive vice-president of game design at Blizzard announced that the campaign version of the game will be a trilogy, each part focusing on a separate race.
  • Terrans - Wings of Liberty
  • Zerg - Heart of the Swarm
  • Protoss - Legacy of the Void

Sure, it's not a release date, but for those still hopeful, there's always tomorrow night's closing ceremonies. We'll get more info on this as we have it, like will it all be in one box? Will we have to buy separate discs? Can we have it now, please?

Update: Yes, you'll have to buy separate discs. According to Pardo, "It's a separate product. Look at the next two as expansion packs, but will have the feel of stand alone products." Meaning yes, we'll be charging you more money.

This is a travesty of...I don't know what, but it certainly is a travesty. Why buy three separate games? And what are they going to put in the other two? I'm assuming you'll have Skirmish and Multiplayer on the first one...so what are they going to put in the others?

You're essentially paying the price of a stand-alone game for a campaign each edition, at least, as far as I can gather.

Blizzard, go back to your roots! Not this money hording crap!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Oh Blizzard, why have you done this to your faithful fans? They better be $20 each. If they're all $50, I might not buy them. IGN Advertisement This fleshes out why they split the game up.

The concept is nothing new, though going this far with it is.

Nintendo does it with Pokemon and has done it with other games (all handheld).

Also, unfortunately, no matter how unfair this is, someone's going to buy it, but if you wanted to gaming community to boycott this, this might be the time.

Blizzard isn't stupid. Sure, they'll get an outcry from the Western World. But Korea and Asia? Hell's no. They'll pump out money for it like it's a full time job.

I won't.

I'm a huge Starcraft fan, but there is no way in hell i would pay full price to buy three separate discs, just to get one complete game.

Hopefully they will at least give us a option of buying them all in one set, even if it does cost a little more.

They will. Later. Like how most games with expansions have an 'Ultimate Edition' (WoW, DoW, AoE, Baldur's Gate, IWD, etc etc) Blizzard will release one for Starcraft 2. It sort of makes it stupid not doing it, if anything they'll get more money that way.
