heres what i've found.... if you have interageted graphics cards, then C&C gen will give the serious error... also i got a access violation at virtual adderss xfffff after installing ZH reborn 5.0, i sovlved this by disabling "cache bios to ram" in the bios. it also seems that options in the option menu can cause a game update serious error. (to find a cause you need to look in the release crash info, anthing with the words virtual address and 0xsomething something, i:E 0xfffff are related to memory, more specfic ram and gameengine update seems to be either currpt data or something thats intfering with the data) i might try disabling the l2 cache next... well thats it have fun...

I have read as many as I can, and have yet to come across a solution to stop the serious error.... The memory is the same, i have 5700U nvi video card so vid is not problem. the motherboard is intel not via. and v.4 works fine most of the time, every now n then i encounter serious error. But the reason I am posting is because of v.5 every time i play it with my friend it crashes for both of us within 10 minutes of playing.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Stupid EA. I just bought the expansion, played it once and now I'm getting that stupid error you're all talking about. I have tried EVERYTHING mentioned and no fix. Seems that most of you guys get it while playing. I get it right after the splash screen so I can't play at all. EA needs to get their stuff together!

Greetings all,

I believe that this error also might be related to various factors not generalizable to all computers. On my old system (SOYO KT333 mobo, AMD 2800 2.0, Kingston DDR333 PSC2700x1.5GB), I had relatively few problems and never experienced the dreaded serious error. After I built my new system, I began experiencing the serious error. Due to unrelated driver issues, I did a complete reinstall of XP and all games and patches. As I did so, I installed Generals and the latest Generals Patch. I then installed ZH and the latest patch. I did a system restart after each step (therefore 4 system restarts for the CnC related installs). While I haven't had time to actually play any skirmishes, etc. I did successfully install and load both games. I went as far as to check the start up battles in each version. Everything appeared to be working normally. I did check for the "my documents > Generals > options.ini folder" that EA states should be removed upon error occurrence and it wasn't even there after these installs.

Perhaps this error could be related to the order of game and patch loading?

Hope this is of assistance to someone in this ongoing epic drama......

I used to have the problem, now I run CrapCleaner before I play. It works a treat.

Hmm. Guys this Serious Error Message ... I think it is related to the new PATCHES that Ea has released. Because when you play ZH on 1.0 version, (the first ZH version) , you dont have the serious error message. I never had the message before i PATCHED the game, to version 1.03. Now I have the 1.04 version and I still get the Errors. I have a suggestion... What if we take the original files, that the patch upgrades and replases, and paste the original files (exept game.dat and generalsZH.exe) into the folder. I haven't tried it out yet coz' I don't know what files the PATCHES upgrade... bawl.gifconfusedx.gif well, its not a hardware problem, when so many different machines has the exact same error. so please, stop think it is. even if you have the newest hardware and drivers, you'll still have the error. Ea's C&C generals (and Zh) is BUGGED and I don't think they will release a patch which fixes the error... please tell me if my tip worked...pwned.gif

shmithers999hey, all do you think upgrading uour ram help with lags /crashes?

My friend has a (i think) 3.6ghz pentium processor with 2gb of RAM and an aTI RADEON x800xt PE and it STILL lags even with hardly any units (I might be wrong about this with the processor(No lower than 3.4ghz though-but everything else i know he has...rich bastard  ) I think its just where the red alert engine isnt designed to cope with large amount of units ...Im just wondering whether his processor can actually USE all that RAM...i think it can...

when i say hardly any units-i mean hardly any units for one of our run of the mill LAN games which usually involves 2+ humans and everything else brutal enemy, brutal enemies of which build to a maximum size, but with humans, have around 50+ naval forces each 50+ tanks each 50+ infantry each and about 20-30 buildings-and his computer starts lagging on a custom made 200x200 map with about 20-50 defense units too. Which for c&c is quite a lot
