Ok I've had this game for 2 years, it's great, I love it, but have never figured out how you get promoted beyond Lieutenant???? It's never really bothered me all that much but it does seem kinda stupid when your bombing around in a tooled up Ambassador or Sovereign and your still the bloody guy who the XO would make clean the crapper! So if anyone can give me any info you'd be doing me a big favour!
Are you playing the single player conquest campaign, and if so, are you playing a stock game? Sometimes, if you downgrade your ship and you're close to a promotion, it screws it up and you won't get promoted. Happened to me a few times.
Yeah I'm playing Conquest single player, but it does the same on single player campaign, how does the promotion thing work anyway? I mean what do you have to do to be promoted in single player conquest & campaign? Is it using up prestige or do you have to be under the command of some one else? If you can explain It'd be a big help.
In all versions of the game, with I think the exception of SFC1, promotion is based on prestiege earned throughout your career. In the specs of the game, there is a predetermined prestiege level that, once you reach it/surpass it by taking on missions, you get promoted. Sometimes when you downgrade your ship and the extra prestiege is put into your little account, and that extra prestiege puts you past the next promotion level, it screws up and you miss the promotion, so you're stuck. Only two ways to fix it. One, start from the beginning, and two, keep going until you reach the next promotion level, without downgrading your ships or its systems.
Excellant thanks, I've finally been promoted to Lt.Cdmr after 2 years of playing, oh well at this rate I'll be an Admiral by the time I'm 70!
Sounds about right. :-D
