Hey all I have been playing lots of maps for zero hour but i have noticed some run choppier than others. Usually these are fan made maps. Is it the maps or my comp?. My comp has a 128mb card, good processer and ram, and a good cooling system.

it is usualy when the person puts WAY to many objects ex.: trees, money crates (on unlimted mones maps) etc. Now, this might not be the problem. may i ask just HOW much RAM do u have?

128 mb RAM is the absolute minimum for this game. If you see the readme file (start/eagames/cnczero hour) i qoute:

Additionally, the following specifications are required for multiplayer:

• 256 MB RAM for 3-8 players

I bet you have less problems on games 1vs1 :D The larger maps require more RAM. I will explain: You have 128 Mb RAM, the game will require a certain amount of ram to run.

When it needs more then 128 Mb RAM then it will switch to your Virtual memory. This means that it will take room from your hard drive instead of your hardware RAM. Each time this is needed your computer has to calculate how much room it needs, and write/change/remove files wich decreases your performance of your pc. And then your game will get choppy.

I advice you to upgrade your RAM in your pc with at least another 256 mb RAM. This will improve your gaming quallity drasticly :smokin:

Anyway if a user made map is made with lots of objects It's a harder performance decrease because it takes more RAM. In the official Generals maps there are most of the time not that many objects.

ps: There are probably more technical therms but i try to keep it simple. If your planning on commenting to this pm me or e-mail me :cya:

I know i have 512 mb ram, the offical maps run fine with high settings, but maps such as boss castle bastions are a nightmare for my comp.

the guys who made the official maps probably paid better attention to how much ram their maps may need so they new where to tone things down for them to runs more smoothly. man iv seen General take up over 600 megs befor, geesh.

Yeh ive always wished theyd make generals run smootly with less ram. It just aint right when your computer meets the recommeded specs and it still runs laggy. Ah well thats the computer for you:D
