I have added many new races to Legacy and it works completely fine in single player, however when I try to select them in a LAN game the game won't let me choose them in the race selection list. It appears on the list but when i click on it, it just makes me be federation. I'm really confused because like I said, they work fine in singleplayer but are not selectable in multiplayer games
Multiplayer only allows the first 4 Races to be chosen. There is no way to add a 5th race to multiplayer. If you have 20 races only 4 of them work in Multiplayer at any given time.
My memory is fuzzy on which it starts at but I believe Federation starts at instantactionslot 1 ? Either that or 0, which ever it is that is the "Singelplayer Race" which you the "player" default to when in the stock campaign and in the case of most missions, as well as the "default" race you start at for multiplayer. The next 3 instant action slots are the other 3 races (2,3,4 for example).
Often the first of those default races to go would be the Borg when it comes to multiplayer. They will continue to work in Singleplayer and Singleplayer Skirmish etc just like your current "new race" is acting.
Darn, that sucks.
Is there any way to modify files to make additional races selectable? Any way at all?
You can only have 4 total races selectable in Multiplayer at any time. You can swap the slot#s of the races so the races are different, but you will only ever get 4 working at a time. That's why I wrote the UUTools Multiplayer Race selection functions, it lets you choose any combination of 4 races to have available in multiplayer.
OK, Thanks for the info!:D
Sorry to resurrect this topic but I read in the Trek Battles 3 description that they have the Cardassians and Dominion fully playable in MP!
How did they do this?
I don't see where it says that for "TB3". While it is for UU, because our 4 default multiplayer races are "Federation", "Klingon", "Romulan" and "Dominion Alliance" by removing "Borg" from the default lineup for multiplayer.
Dominion Alliance in UU includes Dominion, Cardassian and Breen ships.
TB3, if I'm not mistaken, has Dominion and Cardassian ships in separate races, therefore I find it rather unlikely that they would have both in their Multiplayer lineup. Their solution for Multiplayer is they have a Multiplayer Race that includes all the ships in the other races if memory serves. That saves having to swap races around, but it does make for long lists of ships to flip through.
