I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out how to get the clear ripple effect for a cloaked ship. I managed to get the ship to cloak but it goes completely invisible on me as opposed to the transparent rippled look. :confused:

I had those problems with my first ships. In the MS3D file You have to add "_!s_!g_!b" to every material name , You also need to create bump , glow and spec files. Just made a texture file ( for examle 1.dds now create 1_bump.dds , 1_spec.dds , 1_glow.dds ). If You don't know how to make those files , just download any ship from Legacy Files and check how are they made. When You complete Your model everything should be ok.

the problem is i'm working with a pre existing model not a new one and I have no idea how to alter models or any of that

you dont really need to add !g at any time or _!g (the _ is not needed on those tags either). the only map you really need for that effect is a bump map. the bump map remains visible to you when you cloak.

does the alpha channel on the bump have to be setup in a certain way? I only see the rippled effect if the ship has taken damage. what I am trying to work on is the monarch ent j that was released a while back by. With the rerelease of it by UU I was inspired to try my hand at working on the original release which includes a cloak in the odf.

the alphas dont matter on bumps or specs, not even read.
