Its called a directional pad or d-pad whichever one you like to call it. We got 8 ships working in the campaign environments but not in Death Match environments. Plus Legacy is ignoring quite a few things which is making it very difficult...

No it's not retardation, it's simply redundant code or unfinished code. Have a look through the files in Legacy and you will see lines upon lines of code commented out or comments explaining why code doesn't work. Perfect example is the input.map It was not finished which makes modding far more interesting for us.

Wow that would be an amazing mod. Yes, I've always been disappointed that you can't pick your enemies ships. I hope someone figures out how to do it...

well, with all of the armada scripting in legacy, if you can get it all working, you could change the name to "Star Trek: Armada III" ;)

Doubt it...i'd say alot of the Armada 2 cpp files needed to construct fleets and do the general RTS commands are not actually in Legacy. It looks as if they either were starting to implement the RTS side of it just before Bethesda hurried the release or else they just built upon the A2 engine and didn't bother to remove the unused stuff left behind. if Armada2 or even Armada 1 were to become Open Source then we could definitely implement the RTS into Legacy.

I still been working on the 8ships thing plus selectable enemy fleets. AI is an issue with 8ships (needs some more programming to support it) and also the sole key in all of it is the 360 controller. This is very delicate code and something new to us as this is more advanced code than the rest of the interface files. At moment we have the normal interface sorted and ready for up to 8 selectable ships, we just need the ingame interface brought up to speed but we are also slowed down with all the new re-design of the entire interface (both ingame and general interface).

The selectable enemy ships is the next project, this one requires 2 xml files to be completely re-written from the ground up to take such a system. I far more confident with general interface than the ingame interface.

As these two features are very frustrating and time consuming, it will be a while till we put them out. We making slow progress, we have a lot on.
