Hey all! I've been trying to make a Apollo refit TNG class starship using the version on UUM. I know how to change weapons, sheilds ect but i don't know how to duplicate a ship. can anyone help?
For example you are dieing for a new Constitution and say you like the stock model so you a newbie at it so you say I'll take a try and first thing you did is copy the Constitution odf file.
1. The first thing you need to do is open the copied odf and put:
(EXAMPLE: basename = "F_Constitution")
Cos' if you don't your ship ingame will be a white bug box.
2. Edit the odf as your wish, change year, weapons, name, etc.
FINAL STEP: After you are done editing the file, You need to rename it.
(EXAMPLE: F_Constitution_Revamped)
That it. Copy this to Notepad and save this.

Reason to use this way is it makes a copy of textures, model and everything else so you can fully modify the copy you make and keep it independant from the original.
If you do as SFC3 stated and you change the textures for your copy then the original will also change - The tutorial I posted shows you how to make a stand-alone clone of the original ship
SFC3;4925525For example you are dieing for a new Constitution and say you like the stock model so you a newbie at it so you say I'll take a try and first thing you did is copy the Constitution odf file.

Thanks for your help. Just one question. Where you i add the basename in the odf file? i couldn't see where i needed to change it.
-Edit-
Don't worry, i got it working now. Thanks again!
The alternate method is to take the f_constitution_refit.m3d and the hi_f_constitution_refit.dds and copy them to match the name of your new ship's odf. You would use the alternate method if you wanted to alter the Textures of the ship as well. That involves using copied m3d files and then hex editing the file to use new texture names. But that's probably beyond what your looking for at this point.
It probably is but its no harm to learn how to do it, that way you can actually try editing the textures as oppossed to the countless odf refits we get
In that case maybe we should point him to your ole ship duplication thread.
