I have noticed that the skirmish mode allows you to have more than 3 ships in your fleet. I would like to make with possible for the single player campaignes, but can figure out how. Can someone please help me. Thank you Bernice D.

If your talking Skirmish mode you mean you can have more than 3 ships on your Side/Team but not more than 4 total on your actual Fleet.

There isn't any way to get Direct control of those additional ships. With use of scripted missions you can gain some level of control of them but that's not something that can be done in general. I use additional ships on Vs Battle Mode that I release for Ultimate Universe 1.0, and some other game modes that are currently unreleased, but they are setup specifically for that type of function.

The ability to have more ships in fleets...

Legacy, you can have an almost unlimited amount of ships in your fleet only if the mods you are playing can support it. Aftermath is the only mod to be able to have massive amounts of ships and being able to sustain them without crashing as Ive changed certain areas of Legacy to allow for larger fleets via indirect control. Basically I removed Legacy's glass ceiling in regards to that. Ive worked on the other mods too and have stress tested each one over more than a year and they all have their limits.

Now there are two control methods for larger fleets. Direct and indirect control. Markeno has touched briefly on both above.

Indirect control is currently in many mods out there like Aftermath, TLG and UUM and soon in OEM. A mode called Armada and Vs Battle Mode are currently out there for people to play with large fleets. Vs Battle mode is in UUM as they no longer have the Armada mode (removed upon request as with each UU release, the mode became less and less playable by introducing and replacing ships with far larger poly counts). Thats where Vs Battle comes from, their version of the Armada mode and done via scripting by Markeno. The most ships Vs Battle allowed for is 60 from last time they mentioned it. I think that is a reasonable number considering the types of ships UUM has.

The Armada modes on the other hand are different to the VS Battle mode. Both deal with large ship numbers but via different deliveries. Aftermath and OEM are currently mods developing the Armada modes. Compared to the VS Battle mode, Armada modes allow for far larger fleet numbers. The largest currently released is 255 ships and with a prototype one with fleet count passing 430. The Armada modes also have something that the VS Battle modes have lost and thats the story and emotive components. The Armada modes have a higher amount of freedom and ability to explore the modes further.

Something else with indirect control, as long as you have ships still on your side, you can pilot them even after your first 4 have blown up.

Those two are currently the only methods released that allow large fleets via indirect control. Both get the job done but both have their own identities.

Direct control is something different. Currently only 4 ships can be in your fleet but there have been countless testing to extend this to 8 and 16 ships in direct control. The direct control though is something that is code based and not script based. Legacy is capable of more than 4 ships in direct control its just a matter of time before it is ready for release.

Vs Battle actually has a 20 ship limit. Additional ships may be placed on the map. Vs Armada is the upscaled Vs Battle mode with up to 64 ships (32 per side) but it's not currently out to the public. It will replace the existing Armada maps when UU 2.0 is released.

The intention of Vs Battle was original started to replace the One on One with something a bit more dynamic and then also became a virtual replacement for Skirmish once expanded which are pretty much non story based modes.

I do like the Strict Armadas for the potential of a backstory. I had hoped to get people on board to make more structured incidents for the Vs Modes but anyone that maps is to busy doing other maps so it is mostly like the Skirmish mode fights with different AI.

Ya with UU you wouldn't be able to do such large scale Armadas as 200+. 64 High Poly/High Res Texture ships is enough to tax most systems. That's basically why the significantly lower limits.

It would be interesting to see direct control of 8 or 16 ships. Granted you could have a hard time micromanaging 16 in a fight but still be cool.

okay, I'm not sure if I have misunderstood, or if I made myself unclear. I wanted to have atleast 6 ships (including my hero ship) in my fleet for the campaigne games. It would seem you are telling me this is not possible, is that right? I also just add the Alliance (Enterprise era) to my game, but it only seems to be usuable during skirmish mode an not for the campaignes... have I done something wrong? Thank you for your help, Bernice D!:)

Its not impossible. If you just want an extra 2 ships to pick through campaign to give you the 6, you need to make sure you got enough CP for extra ships and the interface needs to be able to support extra ships in the ship selection.

However when you get in game, your 2 extra ships you wont get direct control over them till your first 4 blow up. You will have indirect control over them until then. Just make sure when you want to use your 6 ships that you select all your fleet first, this will also select your 2 extra ships.

More info on the indirect control method is your extra ships will obey your targetting commands of whichever ship you are in. What Im saying here is whatever ship your in (of your main 4), your two extra ships will act as escorts, wingmen or whichever you would like to call them.

Here is a rundown of the entire indirect controls and how to use them:

-To move all your ships, you must select all your ships at once (the 5 key), dont select each one individually, you wont get to move your additional ships. This will allow you to warp and move all your fleet. Group attack can also be used here.

-To target enemies, just be any ship of your main 4 and your extra ships will target the same things you target. This is very helpful as you can send 3 of your ships out to one enemy and have your remaining two ships follow you to attack another enemy.

I too have been exparamenting with adding more complete control ships to a map i did manage to add a 5th ship spot button in the ship selection menu but when i entered the skirmish, the game crashed there must be something that needs to be added to the in-game ui to make it compatible i would really appreciate anyones notes and ideas on the topic perhaps we should start a thread for this specific topic where modders can come and post their attempts and ideas

I think this is a good idea too. I am having issues with campaignes that require you to target sub-systems (which I do know how to do, but it too difficult) and could use an extra wingman to two to help me though the mission!
