I wanted to start scripting for Legacy. I plan on getting a c++ book to teach myself with. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of web pages I should look at, books to check out, anything?

I can only script some basic HTML and QuickBasic (;)) and can script Legacy. The Legacy scripting language is rather self-explainatory!

I didn't get the tutorial much, I'm having a problem opening the .dsl and .drl files with the mission editor ( I just wanted to see what was in there and get my bearings ). Is there any other program I could use to open these files?

no..you cannot open them. But the stock missions source code is included in the mission editor.

Then to make my own mission with objectives and everything, do I build from the stock missions source or just start from stcratch? I just got a C++ for Dummies book to understand C++.

Now that I have read some chapters in the book, I think I understand the tutorial somewhat. Sorry.

If it helps we will eventually try and put together a good solid beginner's tutorial and a library of code.
