i have just downloaded a mod that adds a few ships and a few races to the game, my problem is that the new races don't have any voices (phaserlock, low shield etc.) for them like the original races do, so i was wondering what file do i access to give them one of the original races voices

I guess I should know how that works, but unfortunately I don't. I took a look at the odf/others folder, but there you can only assign the music. Maybe someone else knows...

I was looking at the sound files last night, and the weapons sounds are linked specifically by race. It's possible that whoever made these new races forgot to include new sounds for that race, or forgot to link the new races to pre-existing sounds. Just a guess, though.

I kinda guessed that it would have been Alliances...Good but half-baked!

Okay, you'll need to do some things to add a sound file.

1. You need to create the sound file. Should be a .wav

2. Place the sound file in the following directory Sounds -> Voiceover -> Captains

3. Let's say you made a sound file of a character from Stargate ordering weapons to be fired and you want to add it to the X304 ship, you need to go to the ODF for the weapon.

4. Open the ODF, the ODF is located in the following directory ODF -> weapons -> Photons (depends on what type of weapon)

5. Open the file you wish to add the file to (eg. Stargatetorpedo.odf) 6. Go to the line that says fireSound ="......." and put the filename of the sound file in between the " " sound if your sound is called Stargatesound.wav then your line of code should be fireSound ="Stargatesound"

I think that should be it, it has been a long time since I modded sound files and that wasn't even for Legacy but at least I've put you on the correct track :)

thanks for that but if i put that down as the fire sound for lets a phaser will it then be that the phaser won't make sound when it is being fired and what i will hear is the person saying to fire. what i am trying to do is set up the basic sounds, like in skirmish when you start a person will say the name of the ship and will tell you when shields are low etc. the way it is at the moment for the new races you don't hear anyone talking and i just want to use the sounds of the federation crew or captains for the new races

It was a bit different in Armada and Armada 2 where the commands themselves had a response like move, attack, stop, construct....maybe check the command odfs in the odf/command directory
