Would it possible to make a map with a "working wormhole"? By that I mean, map a very long map, with two star systems in it (like half of a Planet Conquest map) with a "wormhole" outside each system. Separate the systems to the point where even at maximum warp, it would take like 3 minutes to get there. By "wormhole" I mean place what looks like a very small sun (about the size of an asteroid), surround it by a small amount of nebula clouds, script both "ends of the wormhole" to be shipyard (because they have a specific flight plan and can be only passed through when selected to do so), increase the speed of travel through it, don't have it repair, and you've got a wormhole! :bows:

Anybody think it's possible or is willing to do it? :Puzzled:

This thread is not only to try to get a working wormhole into Legacy, but is also meant to be a place to share ideas on how to do it.

Actually wormholes in Legacy do work. Several Mods like UUM, Trek Battles and I also think AM have wormholes on some of the maps that take you to the next wormhole on the map.

Quite a few mods have Wormholes in them, they are map specific though. I know UUM have them, TB does too. Aftermath we dont have any set up but we have played around with them and decided not to use them yet as it dont look nice . We wont be using them until we retexture its animation.

But both Aftermath and UUM have maps that take minutes to get across. You can find them in the Evolution and System Conquest modes. The reason why I know of the maps as I made them :D

There is atleat 1 Exploration map in the UU1.0 release with working wormholes. Textures are a bit weird. Now blackholes those are kind of cool too.. Wormholes are very perticular... you have to either line perfect or get lined up really well and get your crosshairs on the center and press and release the "F" key on your keyboard to fly into it.. Most of the time you don't go through it but if you do it well enough it does work. They can be made to be more player friendly with mission scripts. There will be more creative use of wormholes in UU2.0

That's why I suggested a reworked version. In UU, if you tap F at a shipyard, it automatically takes you in (in the right approach vector) to get repairs, so why not just make a REALLY LONG shipyard that doesn't repair, that way it would put you in for the right approach vector.

That's how you enter wormholes.. Point at the center of them and tap the F key. That takes your right through them. Stock ones are a bit iffy.. but can be made much more reliable, we have some 2.0 missions that use them in that fashion.
