STL is known for having loading issues, but you might what to check and see if your system meets requirements for this game. You can also check the STL site on FF for similar problems. Here is something that may be related to your problem for you to pursue.

Saving and Loading Enabled, Star Trek: Legacy Downloads, Star Trek: Legacy Modding Tools

The few times I've played the game I have not had any problems, but on my other computer I'm right at the minimum requirements and I often got lag or load issues, may be related to what you are experiencing.

Only things to tell you to try are 1. Uninstall the game completely. Including delete the c:\program files\bethesda softworks\star trek legacy\ folder and all contents left behind After Uninstalling.

Then Reinstall.

The next step would be to install the Latest Video drivers for your video card. Be it Nvidia or Ati based you should get the latest driver available and try it out.

Sorry you are having problems with the game, it could be the disk. Disk should have came in a box that looks like this:

...if it did, don't trash the disc just yet. Be patient and hopefully someone in a few days who plays this game more than I do can address your question more directly. If you ever have SFC III (Starfleet Command III question and/or problems) I more apt to help.

EDIT: Be patient and hopefully someone... Thanks Muldrf!

Ive heard of this happening before. Drivers would probably be the most obvious thing (both graphics and sound). One thing I have noticed is Legacy gets very touchy if the sound drivers arent updated (crash happy).

If that still dont work, try your computer resolution settings. It may not seem related, but at times Legacy may not recognise the settings. Your graphics card resolution may not be the same as your screens resolution. Legacy can be very picky if things dont match

Same is true with SFC III, the game will crash if the drivers are not up to date...or if your virus program is doing something (updating) in the background.
