I did a forum search but I couldn't find anything . . . is there any way to edit the .lvl files that were released with the games?
I definitely did a forum search but since LVL is only three letters it kind of limited me. After some more google searching, I'm discovered some posts from 2004 that talk about hex editing the .lvl files. Is that still where this stands?

You don't edit the .lvl, you edit the .wld... Open up the .wld file with ZeroEditor.
I'm learning as I go . . . I couldn't find the location of the wld files but it's cool . . . I did. I guess I should more be looking for a zeroeditor tutorial because basically, I'm trying to figure out how to make 3ds max work in conjunction with the two. Like importer / exporters. Ultimately, I'd like to be able to import the models from BF2 (locations like the tantive IV) into 3ds.
I've sort of found a msh importer for max but it doesn't work . . . anyone else have any ideas?
Ok . . . I ended up using the newest version of 3d Object Converter but I'm not able to extract the msh contents and preserve UV maps and texture coordinates . . . any ideas?

Okay first rule: You can't edit the LVL files. I beleive you can replace LVL files such as the side LVLs, to make a new side, but I haven't the courage to try it. Rule number two: If you want to replace something, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP!!!!!! sorry.

you can edit the LVL files by hex editing. It doesn't always work though. Once I edited them for weeks then left it, came back a few weeks later to do another change and all hex editing after that crashed the game.
