Well I have managed to get a flamethrower weapon for the Republic, and as was stated in an earlier thread, I replaced the default "REPSHELL.LVL" and "REP.LVL" from the GameData\DATA\_LVL_PC\SIDES and replaced it with the "repshell.lvl" and "rep.lvl" from my mod's "_LVL_PC\SIDES" folder. The weapon works as expected, but when you replace the default .lvl files, all the other maps feature the weapon, and you cannot play online. Is there any way to get modded weapons and soldiers exclusively in the mod and not the other maps?

Anyone know? Surely there must be a way, there are plenty of mods out there with special weapons and vehicles, and they don't require you to change your .lvl files..

Yes, make your mod, than go to the BUILD folder in your mod directory. Run the munge program, and that will make you a folder called addon in your game directory. But if you do that you will only be able to see the effects of your mod on that one level.

Ah, but they do not appear. The only way for my weapon to appear in game is for me to replace the "REPSHELL.LVL" and the "REP.LVL" inside the "C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\DATA\_LVL_PC\SIDE" folder, with the ones in my mod's "_LVL_PC\SIDE" folder.

Will making a completely new side for my modded infantry and weapons work? Then I can change the LUA script to read the side, and include the soldier with the weapon in the game.

I have already done this. There is already a folder for my mod in the Addon folder.

Yeh, so in the game do you load up your custom level? even if it is blank. All mods I have made have been the type that you replace your .lvl files in the game folder, Ive never made mods where they are only for on level.

Which is odd, I mean look at all the mods out there that have crazy vehicles, like Boras Stunt Course. That mod doesn't require any changing of .lvl files, and nor does it put any more .lvl files in your game directory. It's like it gets everything from itself in Addon...

So your saying that all your changes you make dont show up? You know that if you make changes and you dont replace the game files, than your changes are only effected in that one level that you make right? You cant munge something and just cause its in the addon folder it take effect in ALL levels. I dont mean to insult you, im just trying to find out your problem exactly.

One more thing, if you modify the "common" side, than that means you have to add all sides that use the common side (unless you dont care if they use the modified common side), and munge them too. Correct me if im wrong, but that is what I have learned from my experiences...

I hope im making sense

You only need to munge a side if its not tur, rep, cis, all, or imp, unless your modifiying them. This only works for your own custom player made maps. I'm not entirely sure about it all when it comes to modifying the whole entire game.
