Hm any error messages? if so what do they say? sounds like it could be a dodgy install or bad ram, try on another pc.

Also if your PC is overclocked in anyway, try it with the CPU and RAM at stock speeds.

First thing to do, Reinstall the game. If that doesnt work, then E-mail lucasarts. If the fault is in the disk/files, then lucasarts should refund/replace your game.

BFII worked fine on my PC for months (nearly the same specs as you, slightly better in fact ;)) But after a while, indeed, it returned to desktop after launching a single instant action. Guess what I did to fix it?

Reinstall the game? - Did that, still didn't work. Reinstall 3 times? - Did that, still didn't work. Reinstall Windows XP? - Hell yeah, that worked! If you don't know what you're doing I don't recommend it, but for me it worked. Saying this, it still could be a dodgy CD, so don't do anything drastic yet. :p Ps. I don't overclock, I don't really need to!
