Great, another map I need to do. I don't know why it'd be porting, because you need EAW for FOC, but whatever, the system is messed up.

Sorry for back seat moderating but porting is illegal and you are not allowed to talk about it on these forums.

I was just asking if it was porting, so I could avoid a potentially bad situation.

He was avoiding a bad situation, he does not deserve any remarks about that. Porting is taking ANYTHING from one game that is not in another game and moving it. If you can find the alderraan map still in FoC files then it isn't porting. However it is porting if it isn't. Odd rules, but one of many unwritten rules of modding.

I can't see how it should be illigal in any case - its for your own personal use - no public distribution of the mod or 'model' code. Some one created code recently to allow you to play the Droideka MK II in EAW - obviously you'd have to import the models yourself. then get the code working in order to play.

This was done by code - not by the actual models or materials used by the game however. It was left up to you to import the models.. So the thing is Mike.ML recently did a converter for these models to convert ALA files from FOC to EAW. This is allowing people to convert things from FOC to EAW - wether you want to argue it's legality or not - I just don't see petroglyph going around suing people for doing this with their games privately.

I am sure if you did port that map Gorber and it was to be used privately it wouldn't mean squat to anyone. Just don't do public ports of stuff from FOC to EAW and release it like that. I think this is where the main issue of legality is concerned.

Actually, shows about how much you know, Jedi. It is very illegal for him to do so, porting is frowned by all, however for personal use, it cost more money for them to sue, then they could make. Mike.NL made the converter for people to get their units with animations into FoC without having to reexport them. People just figured it was for FoC to EaW.

Also Jedi Consular, remember he's working on the wookie in pajama mod. Not something private.

I'd like to point out that most of the EaW assets are in the FoC megs. That is all. I'm new to modding this game, and havent figured out where skirmish map data is located yet, but figuring as both single-player campaigns and all the GC maps are there, I'm assuming the skirmish maps are too.
