how do you detail a model? all detail is from the skin!

Uhh....No. I understand you don't model, but a lot of the Model detail can be on the actual model and not the skin... Unless you are refering to cosmetic detail

That is well, a load of crap. If detail was all in the skin, we all use cubes and pyramids ;) The best skin in the world won't make up for bad geometry. Keep that in mind.

Typically better modelers can pour more details into the same polycount. Then you've got those guys who can model in almost all quads for easy uving detail.

@aj1304 Did How many segments is your spheres and cylinders? That is probably what is taking up most of your polycount.

basically, its not finished and i will be added a few more bits buts im not going to go overboard here. I managed to add few few things and reduce the poly count but even then, om not going to go overboard in adding every little detail. im going to add a few pivot points and maybe detail the legs a bit more but to put it bluntly... Its NEVER perfect. Someone is going to find something wrong with it and it doesnt matter what i do, there will be some form of complaint. I agree that it needs a bit more work but at the same time, i am not going to be going overboard for a few wires, bolts and slighter-larger-than-the-rest-of-the-leg cylinders.

and, the main sphere is 16 segments, the legs are 1 height, 1 cap segment and 16 sides and atm, i've reduced it to 2554 verts so that i can add the proper pivots for the legs.

Which must be why you see UBER Detialed Models all the time from alot of companies.

Quick Update: No, we're not dead and never were. We just went quiet for the holidays.

Anyway, We have decided to remake v1 of our mod for EaW but with a few unit and idea changes and we are hoping to make this one more stable. At this stage most of the space units are coded but thats about it for now. once we get this EaW version done, then we'll make v2 with the cis units added for both EaW and FoC. In other news, we have now set up a new website for the mod and are slowly shifting across to the new site (link later) and if i can, ill try to get back into modeling over the next few weeks, school work permitting of course. Yo should also be able to find occasional updates on moddb and on our current forums.
