Hi there, I've had Empire at War and FOC for awhile now and i'd like to lengthen my playtime of it a bit, was wondering what the best mod is for expanding the size of the galaxy and including new units? I had a quick glance at the download pages here on ff and without categories, i'm a little lost :Puzzled:

Well that would depend on your mod preference and what it might be adding. I mean do you want a mod that is a TC or one that sticks around the stock game and is based on wars?? Usually the best place to look I've tended to find is MODDB simply because its more of a centralised location and is more updated than even the single websites. I would say try there first, but your going to find most are still pretty much unfinished but playable.

As for specific mods to try, its also down to whether your after just space, ground or a mod that adds to both. Heres a small list of ones I've tried:

- FOC Alliance: Currently being produced by Nomada Firefox. Has a shed load of units for FoC in both space and ground. Plays pretty well and has some nice visuals, but can produce a bit of lag on slower systems. Current version 2.2X (still adding further elements. Mod thread is located over at EEAW forum) - Pheonix Rising: Another large scale mod adding assets to the stock FoC. Currently being produced by Chandler and located over at MODDB. Mod has its own website as well at Phoenix Rising so is available at multiple locations. In developement still but recent release is stable.

- Babylon 5 at War: Was originally a cross scifi mod but run into a few problems and therefore stuck to Babylon 5. Currently the only publically known one based on this Scifi series and in developement by thomas39120. I'm not sure if an english version is planned later so you'll have to put up with German text at the moment. Relatively bugless and quite good visually. Available version is 1.6.1 (update for v1.5) and is available from MODDB. - Battlestar Galactica Colonial Wars: Cross scifi between stock FoC (with some additional wars style ships) and BSG. Almost completely bug free and whilst visuals aren't completely on par with other in developement mods it still plays fairly well. Available from MODDB. - Wing Commander Invasion: TC based around the WC universe and as such is solely space only. Has run into a few problems with the Galactic Conquest side of the game so is currently only Skirmish playable. Fully playable version is currently v2.0 and has both Confederation and Kilrathi sides available. Still plans for much to be added as time dictates. Currently in developement by me :D

Some other mods to look for. These are either in the works, for EaW or FoC or are unreleased/in progress at the moment:

- Starship Troopers 1st Interstellar War - Awakening of the Rebellion (AoTR 2 is currently in the works) - Republic at War (forum at EEAW) - Imperial Assault II - Stargate: Pegasus Chronicles - Halo: Covenant at War - Eras of the Mercenaries Mod - Ultimate EAW - Borg Invasion - Scifi at War

Most of these are over at either MODDB, EEAW forum or both.

Hope that list helps.

I'd suggest "Return of the Clones". I've heard it's pretty good

-If you want a near-true to canon mod taking place from after the battle of Yavin up into the early reaches of the New Republic era then Awakening of the Rebellion would be for you. (It is released and probably one of the best mods out there at the moment imo) -If you like the Clone Wars than there is Republic At War/Imperial Assault II mod (un-released right now) -Then there is Thrawn's Revenge which pretty much from what I remember will cover the fall of the republic (clone wars) then have scenarios covering most of the events post-RotJ up until the peace treaty signed between the Imperial Remnants and New Republic (unsure on that though) (unreleased also minus some mini-mods :( ) -Pheonix Rising, the last I checked was making a canon mod (pretty much a realism mod set in the timeline of "Empire at War" a few years before BoY leading up to the battle etc.) Though here recently from the news posts they post on here they seem to be expanding that and planning to cover more. (Still in beta "space only" release and a bit laggy sadly) ----------- Those are the ones I've been following for a few years now that have managed to stay seemingly strong and active. I try not to follow many mods with EAW though. Alot of them that pop up tend to just make a few models, release a preview, and then fall off the face of the earth never to be seen or heard of again.

Unfortunately, Thrawn's revenge is pretty much dead. One mod I'd add is Shadow Of The Empire (SOTE). SOTE attempts to make a post-Endor coversion, focusing on, but not restricted to, the Shadow Of The empire timeline. It also has multiple new features. it's unreleased as of now, but it is being developed :)

Ah Shadow of the Empire, haven't heard much from that one for a while, good to see its still kicking :) and that is a shame that TR is on life support. Oh well maybe they will find someone to carry over the work for them.

In the end it's a matter of taste. There are many good mods out there and many add tons of new content. For me, AotR 2.5 is the best StarWars mod, as it is completely in German and simply "finished". But apart from the language aspect, it also offers (in my oppinion of course) the best stories in the GC maps and it's more or less bug free. AotR 2.5 (Final version!) has just been released, but only in German yet.

Mods that I've tried recently: - Corporate Addon (quite cool) - Babylon 5 (doesn't really make fun yet, as it is still just an unit overkill mod. It needs good GC maps and a bit more concept) - SciFi at War (wait for the next version ;) )

And you should follow the mods, Payne has mentioned. :)

Oh, and don't forget the Final 1.1 including unofficial patch 1.2 of the Stargate Mod for EaW, if you also like other mods than only Star Wars ones. ;)

Looks like there's a heckuva of a lot of options out there for me, guess I'll download more than one and check them all out, thanks for the recommends. Going to grab AOTR2.5 first
