I plan on making some "Boarding Party" units for each faction (using a blacker TIE Bomber without the bombs as a "TIE Boarding Craft", and the boarding shuttle model Tyber uses in the Mandalorian training mission, and I'll figure something out for the Rebels too later - LAAT?).

Anyway, besides just regular some regular hitpoints to attack with minimal weapons systems, I want these units to have some sort of a special attack or ability that will act as a "boarding attack". Initially, I was using a life drain ability, but often the shuttles would be shot before doing any real damage. While I could give them some sort of a 'capture/bribe/convert' ability, I don't think it'd be really fair for a small shuttle to instantly take over an entire ship instantly, or even all at once. What I wanted was some sort of an infection-type attack that would be used once at really close range, and then fly the shuttle out of there (or it gets blown up), when the invisible projectile strikes the capital ship/frigate, I want this to act like troopers all deploying into the ship. I want the effect of the 'infection' to slowly drain a set amount of damage from the ship, either until it dies or until a set amount of damage is reached, I'd like it if it struck either all hardpoints at once, or in random amounts. I'd also like it to reduce the rate of fire and the speed of the ship as well (similar to an ion stun effect).

I tried using the actual "proj_infection" ability (or whatever it's called) and tweaked the affected unit types (capital, corvette, frigate) but it didn't work.

Any ideas for a way around this?

I'm willing to have it either be a projectile or an ability.

I imagine you *could*, but that's not really what I want (though maybe I'll make an "elite boarding party" that can do that). What I want is for them to essentially 'poison' the ship, draining health steadily from the ship until either the ship dies, or a fixed amount of damage has been done to the ship. The 'poisoning' is supposed to basically be the stormtroopers/infiltrators/etc. attacking crew members and/or sabotaging weapon/engine systems from the inside, etc. Basically what they do in Battle Front II.

your right you can't i've tried it every other way with the Laat but it doesn't work, and you can't do it with chewbacca's vehical thing either, but if you wanna try it xanofar be my guest you may figure it out

I have no doubt it would work, enemies could probably be bribed for 1 or 0 credits. And let's not forget that 4 Tartan Cruisers switch to Tyber's faction in the Yavin IV campaign space level.

But again, that's not even what I'm trying to do. >_

I wasn't interested in topic, so I don't know if that can really help you, but you might find something interesting here: Boarding Parties Obviously they were mostly interested in bribe ability and getting those units; still, you might find something interesting there ;)

Yeah, but I'd kind of like the way it works sabotage-style is that it has it's own type of damage, so that, say, a Star Galleon takes very little *very* little damage (since it's primary purpose is to resist boarding parties), and something like a Star Destroyer would have a lot of troops on it as well, so yeah...

I just have an idea. Have you tried with very slow, short range "missile"? Speed might be the key. You could also look into hypervelocity canon for damage you want, if you can somehow slow down damage applied.

If you want to apply diffrent damage, the only idea is to create diffrent projectile for each type of ship you want to engage, since, AFAIK, damage numbers only go in absolutes, you can't scale them to get certain percentage...
