alrighty, let's skip intros and get down to business sorry, no pics, i don't feel like uploading tons on dialup
first off, apply the skin using the proper shaders
if there is a blank side, use quick slice to cut each segement of the model so that the verts that are creating the blank side are still on the farthest side of the segement
select the scale tool (just right click or it's the triangle button) and scale those verts so they're touching
weld those verts
it doesn't look nice, but a destroyed ship isn't supposed to look nice :P
repeat process where needed
now, place proxies where you want the explosions to be name them the explosion you want to appear
create more proxies where you want smoke and debris to be and name them accordingly
ok, go to the broken up model and detach each segement and center the pivot points (go to hierarchy, the tab that looks like a family tree)
group each segement with the smoke and debris proxies you want to move with it
don't group the explosions because it would be pretty useless
you can make certain objects appear when you want them to, but i never tried..............try using the visibilty track
now, click auto key and then animate.
if you don't know how to animate, click on the button with a calendar and clock and set the total frames to 300
then move the slider to 300 and then move your groups around the distance between where the models where to begin with and where they are now determines the speed
ok, with the animation done, turn off auto key by clicking it again then go to the alamo utility (if you don't know where this is, you probably wouldn't be making a death clone :))
go to animation settings and click add change the stop number to 300 and change the name to "DIE_00"
ok export! now you've got yourself a nice death clone ready to be put ingame
Former AoSW team member. You're no longer on AoSW?!
Nice deathclone tutorial.
I guess not but he is helping the community alot. :D
exactly what it says............thanks to exar for putting out the idea for me to steal for my sig :P
:\ Yeah hes certainly helping, Hes done so much for meh....Give him cookies everyone.
*gives code user a dump truck load of cookies for helping the community so much.*
ok i realize that most people aren't normal max users so here's how to split up the model
attach the parts of the model so it's in one piece create a box where you want it to be cut go to compound objects in the creation tab (place with box, sphere etc) go to booleans click "pick operand b" and click on the model
then follow the tut above
former, means used to be..........
Code you make new models or convert some from other mods??
