Hello Community, I am currently undertaking a project to remake all the planet textures in a high definition graphic style. For starters, I have decided to go at the gas giants first, for I feel that the default vanilla textures for these planets are extremely poor. I have started off making a series (1,2,4,5,6-there is no 3), and am pretty happy with numbers 4, 5, and 6, but still feel that they are not yet complete. I would like to see what these planets look like if moving cloud layers were added like normal planets, and also to see if custom cloud layers could be developed and if more than one cloud layer could be applied to a planet. Comments and feedback are welcome, for I would like to know what everyone thinks of things so far. Also, if anyone has any insight on how to get a cloud layer to appear on a gas planet, and about the custom and multiple cloud layers, that would be very much appreciated as well.

Those are really good textures, well done.

Only recommendation I'd make is more color variation (blue, green, etc. versions).

I just wanted to make sure that the public thinks these are good, when your up late at night working on something till 4am, things start to look blurry and the same. If people think these look good, I plan on releasing a mod pack at some point, with a variety of different colors and styles. I was considering a grey/purple/green/blue/red version to be used for Endor, Something orange for Bespin, I'd like to make a Red with orange/yellow clouds for Yavin Prime, and maybe the current version with some violet added could be used for Zhar. Here is where my inspiration come from: Zhar - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki Google Image Result for http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/thumb/8/82/Bespin_space.jpg/231px-Bespin_space.jpg File:EndorSWG.JPG - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki Yavin Prime - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki If anybody has any suggestions, or knows of any gas planets I might have missed, please feel fee to post them here, I am open to ideas. Here is a quick attempt at recoloring, this by far from complete, just an example of recoloring areas done in about 2 min...

Here is another version of a Gas Giant, this one I am calling a "multi atmosphere" giant. I think I will make 2 more, that are less complex, perhaps in the style of Saturn and Neptune. After that, I will proceede with creating different color variations for each style, and then will start looking into the code work for how to get asteroid rings and different cloud layers to appear on them. I may go back after that and play with trying to create storm spots like Jupiter, but attempts so far have only been slightly successful, mostly due to the distorting of the texture while it wraps. Ideas are welcome, and any suggestions on how to take an existing cloud layer that has been modified in photoshop and resaved with a unique name and apply it to a gas planet would be very much appreciated.

A few more different variations of gas planet textures. These would represent less turbulant gas giants that are not riddled with storms. I have created 3 variations of Bespin that alter slightly in darkness, and one for Yavin Prime. I think the Yavin Prime would look well with a light/med cloud layer added in the future.

A softened version of the multi-atmosphere gas giant. I am thinking that the original one may have looked too crisp and not "cloud-like" enough.

Here is the gas planet Endor, textured after the link posted previously. I was aiming for grey/purple clouds with hints of green/blue and bands of red.

As a fellow texture artist, among other things, I have to say that these look pretty good. There are some areas where the texture isn't seamless but I think that has to do with the original unwrap that Petro did on the model. My only suggestion is to make them a little less...posterized. The clouds look really nice but there is a fine detail that's just missing. I can't really put my finger on it... This is a terrific start though.

Thanks for the comments on the work. I agree for some of them I too feel like something is just... missing, but unsure what it really is... I would like to see if I could apply a cloud layer to some of them, like the land planets have. Perhaps even in the future see if I could have custom cloud layers that are colored differently and see if that helps. Maybe it is also that the current size of the planet in the game is rather small, for I would like to see the shere be maybe 2-3 time larger, but don't have the knowledge or skill of how to adjust that in the game. Here are some more color variations. I have created one that sorta reminds me of Saturn, a blue version of the Yavin texture (which I think would look pretty cool if it had a cloud layer with red clouds moving) and 3 others.
