Its been bugging me that alot of ships dont have names in game, you know where you move the cursor over a ship and under its class is its name. I've taught myself to do simple XML edits but i cant seem to figure out how to do this.
btw I mean like the name of the individual ship itself, like the Star Destroyer "Devastator" for example, not the name of the ship class.
open up gameconstants.xml and do a search for and below that add the name of the ship such as: Venator, Data\Venator.txt
Replace Venator with whatever ship youre adding and just make sure u add the .txt file with the proper name and voila that should work
Be aware that where you place the .txt files affects what name your ships get in certain situations, for example - If the file star_destroyer.txt is in the eaw data file, ISDs get different names if built only at one planet ie, Kuat, but if i build one at kuat and mon calimari, they will both have the first name in the .txt file. If the file star_destroyer.txt is in the foc data file, this effect is reversed. As it is unlikely you will only use one shipyard and only use one once, I recommend simply deleting the .txts rather then having a fleet with 3+ ships called Allecto. If someone has found a fix for this, please let me know as I think individual names makes it feel more in-universe.
Alright ty, this wont be an issue seeing as i was hoping to add names to the stuff in z3rox mod, where most of hte ships are only buildable on one planet.Edit: How do i run a search within an xml file?Edit of edit: Nvm i found it,but where do i put the actual name?
Use the search function to find ships already with names. Like This :- Victory_Cruiser, Victory_Cruiser.txt, Broadside_Cruiser, Broadside_Cruiser.txt, Then add this under the last ship :- (Insert XML Shipname), (Insert XML Shipname).txt All ship names (Chimaera, Death's Head for example) then go into the .txt file and will be used from the top down automatically by the game.
