Does anybody know how to take models for Homeworld 2, like EvilleJedi's stuff, and make them work in EaW? I know plenty of people have done this, but I haven't found any information on how to do it.

That would be illegal, not to mention an insult to Homeworld 2.

as it is illegal, you cant give it out to anyone. look in the master stick for items to mod. you need 3ds max though to convert the models into .alo

I'm not talking about models from the actual game, I'm talking about models made by modders. Lots of models from EvilleJedi's Warlords mod have been changed to .alo format and put in EaW mods. I know that taking the original game models would be illegal. I'm not stupid enough to do that.

3ds max version 6 or 8 is mandatory for importing models into EAW\FOC. If you have either version, I can teach you to import a model in game.

For import one homeworld model first you have the model, next you must convert it someone that 3Dmax by example read.

I do not go to tell you how. Look for on google.

And I think that if you go to take models from other modders, you should ask them first if you know the email address from the creator.

If your gona do that, do it carefully, cause its real easy to get fined and in trouble for it too, so get permission and what don't and let any other people have it.

Would the models be used in a public mod?

Okay then people. A couple of things here:

Sierra's stand is fairly straightforward. I've seen several public mods in the past which use stock homeworld (but not homeworld 2) models in other games (Star Trek Armada and I think one of the C&C games). To date, nothing was followed up on the Armada one.

My advice on this is to try to contact Sierra directly via email, and keep any reply they send you back as proof.

Now to importing the models themselves. Firstly, this is no easy task and does take a bit of messing with. Its also going to be daunting to try but anyway.

1) To begin with you'll need a .BIG file editor (the one for the C&C games won't work. I tried this a good while ago), and there is one around. Try using google search engine with the term "homeworld 2 big editor" (the HW2 editor is compatible with both games).

2) Next, you'll need to extract the invidual .HOD files (and there are quite alot of them!!) to a convenient location.

3) You'll then need 3d modelling package that can import .HOD files. Be warned at this point though that nearly every stock model looses its texture co-ordinates, which means you'll need to reapply EVERY textures (and on some models I've seen there can be over 50 individual textures).

You can also check this thread our: RelicNews Forums - The Newbie Guide to HW2 Modding as it is on the official fan forums, which gives indication of what you need (for Homeworld model conversions, but there are tools listed which will also help).

All these things are on warlords web site. Indexer unfBzig.exe HODViewer.exe With it and a 3Dmax, you will can import homeworld2 models.
