I am making a small personal mod with what I consider real armies, I will have each company will now be a division that will consist of roughly 2000 individual units. There will be one general, four colonels, four captains and four Lieutenants. The officers will have individual units under them and every officer will have a tactical bonus ability corresponding with there rank. This will make battles much more massive. It will also clear space on the land unit purchase bar. I will make special force platoons, and make jedi lead elite armies. I have added the ability to generals to be attached to a flag ship, because in my mind star destroyes should be able to hold entire armies. I also hate how the defender is always at the disadvantage, so I will make structures spawn many more men. I might also try my hand at making maps, so that I will have bigger maps to have better battles, but I having done that yet, I have only made the large organized infantry armies, thus I have two questions. 1. should I make the same organization with armor (tanks) 2. should I instead make infantry and armor intermixed. 3. how can I make it to where not all generals are on one ship in an armada, I don't want to make a star destroyer a transport. but I will if I have to.

I see very well your dream but EAW can not support your idea. You can not make one battle with 2000 soldiers and the most important, you can not transport all them on one transport and by it you can not make one ISD transporting all them.

I know that you are not the first with this idea.

And bigger maps = very big hardware resources.

I've already created a .lua script that could very much make it a reality. The only question would be the computer being able to handle it. On your vision, the buildbar would have the "company unit." The individual unit would then be an advance squad that would secure a landing site, where it would place a marker. At this marker the rest of the company would be landed in their individual transports, at about 30 second intervals, until the whole company is on planet.

I'm not really sure, but theres a tag in the spaceunits xml about transport capacity. That may limit how many units can be attached. Speculating really, but you could try it.

2. should I instead make infantry and armor intermixed.

Mods are usually an expression of your vision of gameplay, I wouldn't be distracted by others. My opinion would be it should have a mix, since usually armored divisions usually have support infantry, bombers usually have fighter screens, troopers have artillery support, etc. Good luck.

The only way you could have 2000 troops on the map, if you were to make them really, really, really small. Cool idea, but sadly implausible.

Maybe you could mod one of the Total War games? I don't know if they can be modded easily or modded at all, but i'm sure that engine would support it. star wars in that game, however, would be epically amazing.

You all completely misunderstood what I said, I didn't say I wanted to make huge armies in land battles, I said I did. All you have to do is have the units spawn from the general, like a ship in space, you can have as many as you like spawn. The maps do hold even more than two thousand individual units, I have completely massive battles, the great thing is that most die, so by the end of the battles I have only 25% percent of my forces left, its so completely epic, far more than any total war game. My questions were, should I have divisions with only infantry or only armor, or should I have mixed divisions, what seems more real to any of you. Next I know exactly how to make a company travel on a flagship in space, and I know how to make the land model and space model of a single transport be different, my question was could I make it to where each division had its own flagship during battle, but on second thought, I will just do the transport thing, its easier in the long run.

This sounds like a good idea, my question is how do you keep the game form crashing while putting 2000 soem units on a single map? oh and by the way.... 1000 posts!!!:Party1::Party2::Party3::band::banana: ok sorry I wont do that again until I have 10,000 posts :)
