Has anyone read about modifications in any way for Petroglyph´s Terrain Editor? I miss some user friendly functions. Copying objects is a terribly uncomfortable work (e.g. different Z values become one). Frankly spoken, it feels like some Alpha status preview. Too bad it´s the final version

I'm not 100% sure, but I think editing it is illegal.

I don't think it's illegal to edit the map editor. However, I've never heard of anyone who has tried.

Hm, I reconsidered that. Since the editor seems to consist mainly of the .exe file, editing it would probably require decompiling it. And that - as far as I know - _is_ illegal. Anyway, maybe someone has heard of a less direct way - such as an external tool, e.g. (but not only) for copy/paste operations. I´m thinking of some sort of trainer...

That's what I was thinking.

EaW/FoC is legally modable (Including the game engine, the exe file) as long as you aren't selling your modifications. I would think the map editor would be along the same grounds.

Mike.nl has edited the FOC map editor to keep it from erasing textures in the data\art\textures\ folder. I really don't think Lucasarts will be coming after him anytime soon....

Wikipedia has some interesting facts on decompiling of software. However, there´s no need to further discuss this topic. According to the MapEditorEULA.rtf provided with the Map Editor, "reverse engineering" to "discover any underlying source code, ideas..." is prohibited unless allowed by LucasArts. So they knew the released version of their editor wouldn´t satisfy advanced mappers ;)
