I want to edit some things in a GC, like this one planet can only hold a golan 1 station, but I want it to have a golan 2 station as it's max. Where would I go to make such a change?
Find this line for that planet in planets.xml and change it.
^Level 4 Starbase
Thank you, that helped alot. By chance do you know how to add planets into a GC?
Sorry for the double post. But I'm trying to create my own custom GC, and I'm kind of confused.
Firstly, what exactly do I need for a GC? Because I see all sorts of things, like 'story' and 'sandbox' and whatnot. But what of those do I need for a GC to work?
And secondly, how do you go about renaming factions, and giving them custom symbols?
Well this might give you somewhere to start. As an example I've attached code for the planet Kowak (you'll need to fiddle around with the GC map co-ordinates though to reposition it). Firstly, you need to open up the PLANETS.XML file and head to the bottom. Now before the final /Planets tag you need to enter you planet text:
0 TEXT_OBJECT_STAR_SYSTEM_KOWAK W_planet_forest01.alo W_planet_Asteroids.alo W_planet_forest01.alo Yes yes 1.0 1.4 19.77 Yes -12, -12, 0.1 SELECTABLE, PLANET, PRODUCTION no 0 yes 0.0, 0.0, 0.0 Temperate 58 16 260.0, -370.0, 10.0 6 1 5 Neutral 0.0 Yes
2600 0 0 500
TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_INFO_POP TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_INFO_WL TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_INFO_TER TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_INFO_WEA TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_TAC TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_INFO_ADV TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_INFO_HIS
TEXT_PLANET_KOWAK_ENCYC_01 i_pa_weather_rain.tga TEXT_WEATHER_NAME_RAIN TEXT_TACTICAL_WEATHER_OBJECTIVE_RAIN i_pa_base_stealth_ground.tga load_swamp.tga
Save the file asd thats the first bit done. This code above uses the stock maps so you should be fine. Next you'll need to add the planet to your custom GC XML file:
Galaxy_Core_Art_Model, Bespin, Byss, Corellia, Coruscant, Fresia, Hoth, Kowak, Myrkr, NalHutta, Shola, Sullust, Wayland, Yavin, Hypori, Ryloth, Mandalore, Anaxes, Carida, Ilum, Atzerri
Just be sure of a couple of things:
1) To position it either close enough to another planet so that it is shown when the previous planet is captured (you'll see what I mean if you just run the files with the code above), or add a trade route to this new planet if its effectively out of range of other planets.
2) Backup your files incase of mistakes.
3) Add text entries to the text based DAT file otherwise your planet will have no particular text shown (still having a slight problem with this as theres several entries for each planet so just compare to other stock planets).
That should be it, but hopefully if there are any mistakes someone else will correct me. If the thing crashes just check for any errors.
