Hi, I have a problem making models. When I view the models I have made in the alo viewer nothing appears except the bones. What am I doing wrong ?. I have tried just saving an example of a sphere and the same thing happens. Can anybody help.

You have to use the shaders that came with the game in the shaders.meg file. Use EAW extractor to extract the files to autodesk\3dsmax8\maps\fx\ folder. You already have the alo plugin so what you do now.... Open your material editor, hit the "Standard" button under the globes on the right. Then select "directx 9 shader", you need to select your shader, select meshgloss.fx. Then select your "base texture" your models skin. Now apply it to your model, and then export it, you should then see it.

First of all thanks a lot for answering my post :) I thought nobody would bother to answer. Thanks for all your help and advice, I followed your instructions and completed most of it but i'm stuck on the following bit:

Sidious Invader;4345975Then select "directx 9 shader", you need to select your shader, select meshgloss.fx. Then select your "base texture" your models skin. Now apply it to your model, and then export it, you should then see it.

I found 'directx 9 shader' in the material editor but how do I select a shader? And then how do I select my base texture? And also finally how do I apply it to my model? And could you try to explain it as easy as possible? As I am a newb to modding. Thanks.

First off, are you using 3ds Max 8 Service Pack 3? If not, you ought to upgrade it now because when you do, you will be able to use the shaders that came with the map editor. Also, I do NOT recommend using the plugin that came with the FoC map editor; you can have a lot of probs with it i.e. animations are screwed up, models are flipped around, etc

You need to put all of the shaders in autodesk\3dsmax8\maps\fx\ as Sidious said. When you do that, click on the button near the top of the material that shows a shader directory. Then double click on the shader of your choice. Once you do that, there should be a base texture slot and maybe a normal texture slot; it depends on the shader that you choose.

And to apply it to your model, just drag it onto the model or apply it using the apply material button under the spheres

Try clicking on the "drop box" right next to the "Directx 9 Shader" button, it says material #25 right now, change it to "Standard." I'm kinda stumped why it looks like that heres mine.... Materialeditor.jpg

That has an annoying tendency to happen, I get that problem except when I open 3ds max by double clicking on a model to open it. Probably my problem has to do with how I made my comp open .max file types with max 8 after I had already made it open them with an earlier version (free trial of, like 6 or something.)
