Hi, I've been doing a bit of modelling on 3ds max 8 and have had some difficulty with shadow volumes. The shadows aren't being cast as I would expect. Its probably something basic but haven't been able to figure it out. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

The shadowmesh is just a copy of the HULL_LOD0 model using the fx files from the foc editor. It works fine for some models and not others. For example my mediator cruiser model is perfect and I've done exactly the same thing. Its really bugging me!!!!

And could you export the shadow as copy or clone? shadow mesh should be closed.

How do I know if the model is closed? I presume by closed you mean that it is a single solid object and doesn't have any gaps in it????

Yes, a single solid object can be a definition. The shadow is clone from hull?

Sorry, haven't been around in a while. Thanks for the replies Nomada. Yes the shadowmesh is a copy of the hull. However I have tested it with copying it with the other options (instance and can't remember the 3rd off hand and not at home to check) with the same result. I have run the STL check and Cap Holes functions also to be sure it is closed, but there shouldn't be any gaps on the model anyway.
