One aspect of a mod my group is working on is changing the squadrons to 12, instead of the stock amounts. My question being: which code is it that dictates the formations? Only on a few (TIES, I think) did i notice position code, and on some, a formation line with a number. So, the question is: how does one go about editing squadron positions so that the formations are 'correct' for the number of fighters?:uhm:

check contaniers xml

El Wrongo!

This is from the X-wing Squadron in Squadrons.xml....

X-Wing, X-WingX-Wing, X-WingX-Wing30.0,0.0,0.00.0,15.0,0.00.0,-15.0,0.0-30.0,30.0,0.0-30.0,-30.0,0.0

First number is front\back of the squadron(positive number in front, 0 in middle, negative in back) Second Number is side to side (positive is right, 0 is middle, negative is left) Third Number is up\down (Positive is up, 0 is middle, negative is down.)

Notice there is one squadron offset for every unit in the squadron units.

By default you EAW/FOC's max squadron size is 10, so you'll need to override that otherwise it will split your squadrons into one group of 10 and one group of 2 fighters.

I tried the same thing and had to make changes to the actual fighter xml's and the squadron xml.

IIRC I had to add this line to the fighter code 12

and this to the squadron code 12

Oh little geeky tip, you can use a spreadsheet/graphing program to input the x and y (front/back & side to side) coordinates and then plot them in an x/y scatter graph to get a rough feel of what your formation is going to look like.

Under each entry... um let me be more specific

For each fighter that is going to be part of a 12 ship squadron you need to add in 12 for the fighter code in SpaceFighters.xml

Same deal for the squadrons you need to look up the appropriate entry in Squadrons.xml and then add 12

I've been using modded XMLs for so long I'm not 100% sure, but I think most of the fighters already have the appropriate code, you just have to change the value. I don't think all the squadrons had but I think the bomber squadrons did for some reason. So you can search for those lines in the respective files. Actual physical placement within the entry doesn't really matter, it just has to be in there somewhere.

Duh I should have checked archived XML's looks like each fighter has the tags already just overwrite the existing value with 12. You will have add the squadron code in yourself though, only a few squadrons use that code by default. Just check the existing ones for an example and change them to 12.
