As I've stated in previous posts,I'm just learning to mod(though I think I'm progressing well)and would like some tips for noobs. Also,I have NO money for high-tech $600 programs.:smokin:
4 positions Modeling Skinning Xml coding Mapping
Xml and mapping are absolutely free.
Modeling and skinning on your own can be expensive. However free modeling program called gmax exists. You have to have someone else rig it for you however.
My tip for you is don't port models.
well can u post a link for the gmax
for coding, its easy to learn, its mainly just trial and error. you can use notepad to code and then open the xml with internet explorer, if there are any errors it will tell you where.
I'll tell you something: When I started GoC (or LoC as it was at the time), I had no experience coding, and I had little experience modding, as I lost my EAW CD shortly after the map editor came out.
In the end, I bought a new one, then downloaded LoW. I was inspired, and started my own mod. For about the first month, I used many tutorials for XML coding, and had much trial and error. I still suck at mapping, though. Just so you know, I still don't have my first model working, the Naboo N-1 starfighter.
Mapping isn't that hard, it is just trial and error until you know how to do it, then it is so easy, but time consuming.
Yes, I can map, it's just A. I don't like mapping and B. It's too time consuming.
If I want to, I can do pretty good maps, but I don't turn out that many.
I mod for personal ussage - using Warlords and whatever else I can get my hands on - I can't model or skin but I'm a great coder. Its lots of fun once you know what your doing - but always back up the coding before you try to edit it.
EAW Xml files tend to do... very strange things when you aren't looking, things that shouldn't be possible just happen for no appearent reason - and you can never figure out just WHAT you did to make it do that... especially when you DIDN'T do anything
Yes, like not having the AI build stuff for some reason, or my personal favorite, having the AI go in circles for no reason.
Funny thing is, I did nothing to the AI files, and the answer to the circling problem was I had done something in the special abilities section wrong for the SSD.
