I dont know if this is needed but it might be helpful to some people Ok first i will give some reasons why modding on vista might be difficult: 1. You need administrator position ot change anything in Program Files plus it give you an anoying message whne changeing or adding anything ~My Advice~ Change install directory or use external Hard Drive 2. "Is EAW/FOC compatible wiht Vista?" ~My Advice~ Yes it is, but you should install a Vista game only wiht Diret X Now i will give a list of programs that work wiht vista and if they do i'll tell u if there is any problems: ~Pettoglyph Map Editor~ Yes it is completly no errors or screw ups ~ALO Veiwer v0.7~ Yes, but when you show bone names they names are all screwed up and if u move the names become blured and disroted ~My Advice~ Go to Model Then Details, Then click Bone Hiearcy ~MTD Editor~ Yes, Cant save in program files ~String Editor~ Yes, Cant save to Program files ~Planet Postioner~ Yes, no problems For icons and dds editing i use Paint.net Yes it works, Vista compatible if anyone else has vista and wants too add other programs to the list feel free to add some I dont know if this needs to be stickied but i think it should ot make people aware that u can mod on Vista

This is a complete understatement. I can mod just fine with Vista, and I get no problems.

~ALO Veiwer v0.7~ Yes, but when you show bone names they names are all screwed up and if u move the names become blured and disroted ~My Advice~ Go to Model Then Details, Then click Bone Hiearcy

Show bones, and Show bone names then just highlight models > Details, leave mouse over details it fixes the flashing in the bone names making then visible in viewport. Also 3ds max 8 with Windows Vista does not support .dds even with the plugin.

Nomada_Firefox;4212017I think that the best is delete vista and install one xp, by the moment vista is a O.S with many big bugs and many problems with old software.

I can list about 4 Modders who use Vista with no problem for Modding.

@Sidious: Max 8 works with DDS,you must use a little trick. Simply click twice on "open",then twice on "cancel" and the texture is on the material! With this trick you can use the EaW shaders with DDS textures. I don't know if it works with a "normal" material, but you can at least use it to rig models for EaW.

And i also have no problems with Vista, everything works fine. I think it simply depends on the hardware you use...

Mod Launcher: works also perfectly

Merlin, good info. I've been using .tga to apply the texture to the model, because the game will look for the file name with either .dds, or .tga, at that point I can convert it to .dds.

I do not speak only from mod with Vista, I speak from all the O.S, now Vista is as the XP when it was released, a big bug with many errors.

A Xp fully patched runs better than a Vista and it can run all the programs because on the past years people fixed all the problems. On two years probably vista will be better but now it is a big bug.

And yes you can mod with Vista and I can run the 100 meters on 20 seconds but I will continue being a turtle.;)

Better advice: Just go into the Control Panel and disable the UAC so you don't have to change the security settings(under right-click properties>security) for which ever folders you will be modifing stuff in. Its so much smarter that way.
