This is very strange...

I followed a nice tutorial for a lift and it worked on an empty map... I made a func_train, 2 path_corners and linked them fine.... I set the lift on "start_on" or something like that (that means it goes by itself following its path), I compiled the map and puf! no lift!

Again I too again the same map and chenged the flag to "player_use" that means you have to hit ctrl to start the lift, just to try it... I went in the room, found the lift brush, clicked it and puf.... it just disappeared! I tried some other flags... but always the same... anybody can help me?

I haven't personally used Trains ever, but I know that trains require an "origin". This is like a piece in the train which identifies it and everything moves along with this origin. Origins do not have to be in the centre either. I wish I could tell you more but I don't know much :( however this origin thing might help you out a little hopefully :)
