Hopefully this is the right place to ask this, and I apologize if it is not. At the bottom of the comments there is someone that says there is a way to get this model to work in single player but i've tried changing the names of the folders to "kyle" and I can't see the model at all (in 3rd person) and the saber is backwards at some weird angle. This is the file I'm referring to Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Star Wars. Also, I really enjoy hapslashes Anakin and Kenobi models, is there any way to get them to work in single player for Jedi Outcast?
Welcome to Filefront Forums, kypdjk! :)
To answer your questions:
1. To replace Kyle with the Kevin Coyle Anakin model, you have to rename everything to kyle, not just the folder. Rename the folder, rename the model directory in the skin file to kyle, rename all of the model directory parts for the shader to kyle as well and I think rename the shader to kyle, I think. 2. Now, as for using HapSlash's Anakin and Obi-Wan models in Jedi Outcast: well, there is possibly one way to, but it would require doing two things; this is a little trick that I learned from Jolt that he used on his Darkness single player mod that put JA models in Jedi Outcast: a.Download NoteMaid, which is a text and binary hex editor, and open each model.glm individually with them, just don't get them mixed up when editing them. Where you see the first occurrence of the word _humanoid in models/players, change that with NoteMaid to _jka3noid. b. Make sure you make a new folder called that and extract a copy of JA's _humanoid gla and animation cfg and place them in that folder (if you don't have JA, you can get the demo and extract them from that). I hope that they do work for you in Jedi Outcast, because I never tried. Good luck; let me know if it worked.
Hey thanks for the reply. For some reason when I rename everything, it just gives me the kyle model with the sounds from Anakin. When I tried to open up some of the files through winrar, it wouldn't let me edit any of the information, only the folder names. Is there some tool I should be using to do this?
Well, you can either extract the pk3 with winrar and open it up with it, or even easier, get a program called Pakscape, it's here: Pakscape, Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Modding Tools It will open up the pk3 for you. I did forget to tell you to rename Anakin's sounds to kyle, didn't I? D'oh. Make sure you do that too. Like I said, to make it replace kyle, rename the model folder from whatever it is to kyle and make sure the skin file in the folder gets edited too from models/players/whatever to models/players/kyle; same for the shader file and rename the shader file to kyle (you can open both files with notepad) and make sure that sound folder is renamed to kyle under sounds/char/misc so that Anakin will have his appropriate sounds. Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Hey I really appreciate all your help! After messing around with the pk3 files for a while, I finally got the model to show up without glitches and errors except for the lightsaber. It turns out I actually had to take the files out of the pk3 and then put them back with the changes because I noticed it kept changing my edits when I left the files in the pk3. Right now, and if you need to I can provide a screenshot, the lightsaber itself is sticking out of Anakin's back at this weird angle and I can't figure out why, let me know if you have any ideas!
Hmm. That depends on which Anakin Skywalker hilt you're using. Are you using one made for Jedi Outcast or one made for Jedi Academy? I guess it doesn't really matter either way; to make it replace Kyle's, make a folder called saber and if the saber glm is named something else, rename it to saber_w.glm and stick it in the saber folder. Then, keep the textures in the folder that the hilt came with and stick that in too. That should fix your problem, I hope. Let me know if it doesn't.
Brilliant! The fix you mentioned worked, I really appreciate it. I'm still trying to get it to actually be Anakin's hilt, but i'm sure there are several mods for that already so I'll find one. I'm curious, do you know if the robed models work in Outcast or are they really glitchy? I'm going to eventually see if I can get Hapslashes Anakin to work, because it really is the best model i've seen, thanks for all your help!
Not terribly glitchy, but a model with a robe is always going to look a little funny no matter what, especially when it moves in one (ones with capes are much, much worse than ones with robes, trust me). There's not much that can be done about that unless somebody has a lot of knowledge about re-rigging or reweighting, two things I do not know how to do. But like I said, try the tricks I told you about about putting those models in Jedi Outcast; let me know if they work or not.
I don't think it will actually work trying to put JKA models in JK2 because it was all buggy and glitchy when I tried it but I could've just been doing it wrong. Do you know if there's a mod that changes the horrible (to me anyway) blaster bolt blocking in JKA? Even when the blocking is at level three stuff will still get through and tag me, so I was hoping someone made a mod that had blocking more like in JK2.
Sorry to hear about the models not working in Jedi Outcast; some of them may not work at all even with that trick I told you about because of the number of bones in the model. About yuur other question, I do highly recommend the following mod that is excellent for the sort of thing you are talking about for JA, it's pretty good, let me know if this is what you had in mind:
There's also this one which is an enhanced version of the one above:
Let me know if either one of them are to your taste.
