Hi. Maybe there are some server experts here that can help me. Does anyone know of any methods or things I can do to help prevent hackers from coming in and taking over the server or crashing it?

Also, there is probably no way to hide your ip, right?

Thanks.

Are you running a mod? The Jedi Academy Mod has some exploits that allow people to take over your server. I have heard that DC Mod is free of those exploits.

No, no mods. And I'm playing on 1.02c. Perhaps I should use a mod...?

There are no mods for 1.02. Some mods added exploits (unintentionally) so using a mod isn't necessarily going to be better than no mod anyway.

There is an exploit that affects Quake III engine games including JK2. There is a patched version of the dedicated server for JK2 1.04 but I don't know of one for 1.02.

Your only hope is to identify the hackers if they have to join the server to cause problems, and then ban them. You can use a server remote control program like Rcon Commander to automatically take "status" snapshots every 1-2 minutes, generating a log of the players and their IP addresses. Later on, using that log and the server's game log, you can usually figure out who the hacker is and then ban their IP address. If they have a dynamic IP address you might have to ban a range of IP addresses.
