Does anybody know where I can find a link to download 3D studio max 5, so that way I can start working on my trees for Dagobah?
you cant get downloads for older versions of max off the internet, unless you ebay it and try and get it for cheap from someone.
Indeed, you cannot legally download any version for free.
There may still be retailers selling student licenses for the older ones, you'll just have to shop around.
Downloading it, though, is classified as warez and piracy.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
well then does anybody know what program I can use to create trees for dagobah, if so, where can i get it, or download a free trial of it.
dude if your just making prefabs get like either milkshape or gmax, ms3d costs a very small amount like $30 or somethin but its .md3 (map object format) support is second to none since it was made for that format but gmax can export it as well and its like a watered down 3ds max.
Actually, you can just model them in Radiant and use q3map2 to convert it to an ASE model. It might save learning some new programs.
from what ive read looking at books on game mapping while bored on break from work its good for mappers to learn simple modeling because a 3d modeling program is alot faster than a terrain editor or mapper.
Only a lucky few get such jobs
But to each his own. It is a good idea to learn modeling. Wish I knew how, but I'm stuck with ASEs for now.

it doesnt take that much time to learn O_O if you want it bad enough youll learn and if you dont then you must not really want to, theres tons of free versions of all the major programs out there.
I believe I offered to make some trees... Doesn't matter anyways, I'm a tad too busy now...
Anyways, if you get Gmax(it's free), which as far as I've seen is almost identical to 3ds max, you will be able to model the trees, then get an md3 exporter to put the trees in-game.
