In JA, do you have to pk3 a map first and then drop it in base before you can play it?

Richdiesal's tutorials show him simply firing up the game and playing the map through the console command or something

You can devmap to it, as long as it's in gamedata/base/maps.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

This is true. I've made a map, yet you have to get to it through console. It's annoying. I'm wondering how you can setup the PK3 file to have your map show up in the "select map" menu. If I had that, I would've released my map already, but it doesn't. So, a little help for both of us I guess?

I'd recommend looking at another map to see how their arena file is set up. You need the .arena file if you want to be able to select the map via the map selection menus. It's located in the scripts folder.

Technically, all you have to do is put it into base/maps, if you pk3 it (Which I recommend) make a folder called maps (along with textures, shaders, scripts etc.) and put it in there.

Will do.

Also, when I download maps, I just drop them in the base folder. I think I remember that I used to go through all the trouble of finding the exact folders and such.

Is that really necessary? Or do I just have to put them in the base folder? (Maps I've downloaded from Jk3files.com)

I've been doing that, and it's worked...so I guess that's all I have to do?

pk3 files just go in the base folder.

For your own maps, you have to pk3 them with the correct folder layout.

If you just want to test a map half-way through building it, all you need is the bsp file in the maps folder.
