ok i got this assimilate error problem and i did everything. I mean i uvw mapped, xform, heirarcy, weighted etc... i also spent a long time fiddleing around with it and i did get it to work but there is just one slight error. what i did was i put my root.xsi in two of the humanoid folders it asks for some reason, but i did it anyways. after saving my model.car file in the _humanoid folder (where the root.xsi) is, i got this carcass.exe error message.
-----C:\base\base\model\players\_humanoid\model.car ---- < Build trigger: "C:\base\base\model\players\_humanoid\model.glm" missing > entering C:\base\base\model\players\_humanoid\model.car <90 degree skewing OFF> Loading GLA "/base/model/players/_humanoid/_humanoid.gla".....21376 frames Grabbed 1 files with 21376 frames Processing 'C:/base/base/base/model/players/_humanoid/root.XSI' XSI import failed, code = 4599 ,file:/base/base/base/models/players/_humanoid/root.XSI' >
When i close it i get a build failed error which reads process returned error: -1073741510. for some reason i think the problem is is that it isnt importing the XSI for some reason even though it finds it. Also, every file above i have the root.XSI or humanoid.gla file located in. also, i was searching for help but the closest thing i found was a code = 12 error. But this is different.
most likely because you have three base folder which is very unecesary, if there arent three bases in JA then you shouldnt be compiling in three. make your folder structure C:/base/models/players/_humanoid/, if yours is different from that then your stuff is set up VERY <-- (had to use caps) wrong. it has to be exactly the same as your folder structure for the game or in pk3's.
ok i figured it out, it was something i needed to uncheck in the menu before i exported. but! yet again, another error. This time i know its a problem other people have gotten but i need a more simpler explanation. i get this error. unable to find bone "ltalus" referenced in this mesh. i looked at a way to solve it an the guy says he figured out how to do it and a cap was accidently weighed to the mesh. Well how do i unweigh it and which cap is it... how do i find out. thx in advance.
well you dont import the _humanoid.gla into assimilate, you just go to file>add files and choose the root.xsi and then just hit build because if the root.xsi file is in the _humanoid folder with the gla then what it does is attaches your model to the _humanoid.gla. and and the way your folders are set up do matter because JA wont recognize the retarded folder structure you have. assimilate reads the gla and the gla tells assimilate that its supposed to be in the folder that i described and cause its not your getting all these errors
Y are you telling me to import the root.xsi when tim applebys' tutorial says to import the humanoid.gla. Well i did it anyways and this is what i got. i had gotten problems when i added the .xsi to assimilate instead of the .gla. now, when i bring it in, i get a error like this:
You're trying to add "root.xsi", which is inherent, you should only do this if you're making amodel that has not seperate anim files.
and so i have no idea what this means so i click ok to proceed. when i click build, i get another problem.
Model: "nameishere" Model must have a 'makeskel' path ( Double-click on the top tree item's name (should be a folder), then click "Makes it's own skeleton" in the dialog ) (1 faults)
continuation from previous post... i was fiddling around with this and i decided to click the folder icon in assimilate for my root.xsi. i checked off maked its own skeleton and it then allowed me to save my model.car. Carcass started up and complained that 1 frame isnt 100% legal. ive read a help thingy and it said to make some rudimentary animations. how in the world do i do that... do i really have to learn that too?

You do need to import the gla. You only need to import the xsi if you're making a vehicle.
I don't know much about player modeling, and so does most of this forum. Try to ask this in LucasForums.
OMG it grabs the humanoid.gla for you if youd just set up your folders CORRECTLY!!!!!!!!!! LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN, make all of your folders with the names they SHOULD BE change your preferences in assimilate to point to that folder setup and build the model WITHOUT the makeskel path cause all youll do with that is make a player model that has NO ANIMATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive compiled dozens of player models, trust me im not telling you wrong!
i have all the folders setup correctly and i did change the preferences (except i left the quake 3 directory one blank cause it created problems.) buildig my model without the makeskel path isnt as simple because it brings up this wordbox like notepad that reads that, and there is nothing i can do to get around this. ps: im adding the root.xsi that is in the _humanoid folder because you said so, am i correct?
other people are also obligated to help ... dont be shy. i just need my questions to be answered more quickly. or can you be a bit more detailed minologo because you say things as how they are on your computer because everything is already fixed. what did you do when it gave you those errors. im trying to follow you by adding the .xsi file instead of the .gla file, but there are no help things for that because everyone else does it the .gla. thank you
