Hey everyone... i am making a mod for bleach, though i am new to the Q3 engine, so i need a little help. If anyone posts i would be very thankful for useful information. My question is this, do the bones have to be added in any special way in JA, for a sword.. do they need specific names, the bones, to be treated correctly by the engine? does the animation have to be made with the model, or is the bones all thats important, and does it matter how its layed out on the grid?... also, to what scale is JA, and how do they like to be weighed in? anyway, just some curiousness. i really need help, im very much stuck without it and cant continue, ive made two sword models so far, Zangetsu and Senbonzakura... i know thats not much, but i only started a couple of days ago:P so steady on, if your interested. more later, along with hopfully characters and if possible, kidou, anyway... can somone help me?

if you look in the tutorials sticky you should find a link to psykosiths website which has the JA skeleton for 3ds max. the only thing for sabers/swords is the tag names and placement which is very easy, there should be a tut on that floating around somewhere. models arent wieghed in, vertex wieghing is making a mesh move and conform with the coresponding bones, much like your muscles and skin stretch and conform according to how you move your bones. psykosiths site has a load of tuts on how to get a player model in game and they are pretty descriptive and there is also one that comes with the JA SDK thats on jk3files. the main thing i can say about character rigging is, do it by vertice and not enveloping. enveloping is fast but youll never get good results with it, doing it by vertex is far more accurate. so go get a trail of 3ds max and give all this a shot, its no where near as hard as people make it out o be, theyre just babies :P softimage can also do all of this but there are no tutorials out there, corto was gonna make some but ill have to ask him about it.

In the tutorials thread look for Virtue's Lightsaber Crafting Tutorial, it'll give you the info you need on scaling models.

This is my goodie-bag of Max plugins. Now I can't guarantee they'll all work for Gmax (the XSI one shouldn't, I don't think), but give them a try. The MD3 ones may. They all go in your plugins folder, except the q3-md3 one. That goes in script, and you run it through MAXScript.
