Is it possible to create the illusion of bump mapping using shaders? (eg, specular shader manipulation)
Someone had it working, I think it might have been SzicoVII. Wasn't bump mapping though, bump mapping uses a grayscale map to have displacement. This was more like a normal map which uses RGB and is a lot more detailed and what is used to make all the new games look so pretty. RGB=XYZ in world relative to objects surface and is activated by world lighting.
Jedi Mediator has also done some fake bumpmapping. In fact, if you search for "bumpmapping" on jkfiles, you should find his work:
I would love to see some before and after pictures with this tutorial as I never found any...if any of you successfully pull it off would you mind posting some?

I recall that was the reason I didn't think much of that tutorial.
that first one works only for maps and map objects since it requires a lightmap and lightmaps dont have an effect at playermodels or weapons at all
the second one is just a tutorial for a specularity shader's If I'm not misstaking >_>
I've tried the first one and it didn't work. I'm using it on "textures/yavin/templewall_1"
Inyri Forge;5219217I recall that was the reason I didn't think much of that tutorial.
Yeah, exactly why I didn't bother trying it out on any of my texture overhaul projects either.
Yeah, I saw this kinda' thing in JKA once. A mod. Never downloaded it, but the screenshots looked pretty damned good.
Imagine what JKA could look like with Bump-maps! JKA can still look really good, considering how old it is.
