Right! So I'm working on a reskin of dante to be Alucard, red trench coat kind, not castlevania kind. I know it won't turn out quite right but that's not what I'm here to talk about. I'm here to ask if it's *needed* for the black outline in cel-shaded things to be modeled in, or if it's possible to do with a shader file. I was looking on google and I saw a mod for quake 3 that made everything ingame look cel-shaded, so I think it's possible since I doubt it would re-model everything ingame and add the black outline. ALSO, I've only managed to get the shadows to work so far, not the highlights, so if anyone has a shader code snipit that would be extremely useful! thanks for your time as always.

It doesn't need modelling on - you'd end up with a black bubble across the whole model! But, really, you don't need the emboldened black outline. It looks like crap. As for the shader, there was a thread on this quite some time back which has a perfectly usable shader. Use forum search. :nodding:

Just don't do what I did - the image for the shader has to be white, not blue! (Although I made it blue on purpose to annoy Inyri. :p )


I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Pretty damn useful, thanks Kouen, I found that one topic you were talking about, but it still didn't tell me how to do the dark outline on models, only on levels.. (No I don't want one of thoes huge ugly gaudy lines, just a nice thin outline to bring out the anime-esque look I'm trying to give the model.)

You need to remodel to get the blackline.

Alucard? With the Dante model? I don't think it'll come out quite right....Alucard's hair is almost Sephiroth-long.

Very true, but it also depends on his 'release state', when he has his hat and sunglasses on, his hair is conciterably shorter. It's actually looking decent except for the fact that it looks out of place without the black line.. Also I posted a thread requesting a proper model, but no one was really all that interested in making one. I'm just doing the best I can with what I've got :D

Well, good point, but he won't have his hat and sunglasses on...although, if it looks good enough, ie. better than the last released Alucard, then it'll be cool. Know why? Cause Alucard is one bad muther******
