I am looking for a tutorial on coding for JA. I'd like to be able to make cool things and modify gameplay aspects of JA.
Coding isn't a JKA specific thing, so there are no tutorials around here. It's professional-level stuff, and way above the scope of modding. So, you'll either have to go out and buy some books on it, or hold on and do a university degree in programming when/if the opportunity presents itself.
I suggest not messing with it unless you want to take a programming career. It's just too much effort to learn it just for a video game. I've been learning from books for three years and I've gotten almost nowhere.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
Wait. I wanna be able to mod I mean, not code. Like take JA+ for example, is that an example of coding? I am a bit clueless.
Server side mods like JA+ are coded, yes. Most of the people who do mods of that nature are programmers professionally, though. Programming isn't really something one can learn as a hobby, it's just far too high-level. Mods such as weapon mods, character mods, custom levels, etc, don't require coding of any nature. You can find skinning, modelling, mapping and scripting tutorials in the Master Sticky topic.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
Wait. What is scripting exactly? Say I wanted to speed up the blaster rate of fire, would I need experience in scripting or coding?
If all you want to do is edit weapon parameters, then you can certainly get away with simple scripting. In fact, all that takes (last time I checked) was editing the numbers in the weapons.dat file using Wordpad.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
Wait. I am going to put a list down and you tell me if these things are coding. -Editting Startup Weapons -Tinkering with Gun damages -Changing Force Damages -Knockdown Effects for Grenades -And the general editting of JA gameplay aspects like movement speed
Sorry for the double post. but where can I get a program for scripting? On the tutorial provided by filefront, it has a link for a program BehavED but the link is dead and I dont know how to script.
BehavED is supplied as part of the Jedi Academy Multiplayer SDK.
